Canine Addison disease

Anyone have experience with canine Addison disease? My dad’s dog just got diagnosed and we’re trying to get a picture of what the future for her looks like.

Anyone have experience with canine Addison disease? My dad’s dog just got diagnosed and we’re trying to get a picture of what the future for her looks like.

My son's yellow lab was diagnosed with Addison's few years back. The hardest decision to make is whether the "shots" to manage it will extend your pups life with reasonable quality of life. Unfortunately, the timeline for that quality of life is dependent upon the dog's health and frankly its will to live. His pup (4 yrs old at diagnosis) was tough as nails which gave my son few more years of really good quality of life. He was my buddy too and he just fought it like hell. Eventually, he degraded and that awful decision to put him down had to be made. The organ deterioration was just horrible at the end. We did get several more years of his undying love which was priceless.

This is a really tough decision for anyone. The cost of the shots will set you back but it's a total decision to evaluate.

My son and his wife felt it was worth the financial burden to have their buddy few more years.

Its a horrible debilitating disease for dogs and owners. I truly wish you all the best in your journey with your pup.

Grand daughter came home with a mutt that followed her home from school about 3 years ago. Dog was diagnosed with Addison about 18months ago. She is doing fine with a small dose of Prednisone in her food every other day. Part lab for sure, damn dogs tail wags clockwise for a while then goes counter clockwise for a while. Every time the direction changes she falls down.

My best Leopard hound got runover and they diaginosed it at Addison. I spent a ton of time saving and caring for his life. We took him out on the 3rd of July in 2020 and he had one of best days ever hunting, hiking, swimming, and eating good. And we talked about getting his blood rechecked the next week and he died on the 6th out of blue. I still couldnt figure out why his heart gave out, but he never was the same dog after getting run over and affecting his adrenal glands.
