Late Saturday afternoon I was up in the mountians trying to rattle some whitetail bucks in for my son. It was getting dark and we had not seen much to get excited about so I let out a series of fawn in distress calls. My son was not amused because we were in an area that has lots of cougars and bears and we were about a mile from the truck with dark approaching fast. We stood up to head back to the truck and we were suprised to see a bobcat
not more than 50 feet away down wind at the edge of the cut line. It left before we could get on him with the guns but I think we found a new game to play this winter. Hind sight being what it is we had advanced warning by several squirrels in that direction that were making quite a racket just before we saw the bobcat.

birds and squirrels will give a cat away i've seen it happen several times calling bobcats. Anouther trick i use while calling bobcat is to switch to a bird sound when i think one is close but hiding. The cat will jump up on a rock to look down on a bird in distress they sneak the hole way after a rabbit.
