Well I've heard guys say their bullets are just screaming as they fly down range. Sounds like the RUM does just that.

That was just the ringing in your ear from the non suppressed blast

I've heard it before shooting 300WM at prairie dogs one time. I think your spot on with the moisture thing. Really cool sound as it travels away from you.

Funny how people think a magnum rips animals apart. The bullet is still. 308. Just like a .308 Winchester, a 30-06 and a .300WSM and on. Moving faster is all. Don't shoot them where the meat is and you don't ruin any. mtmuley

For some of us that hunt public lands, yes you can hear the bullet go past you.

It's the one that you don't hear that is the real issue.
