This past Tuesday my 10 yr old son and I were able to spend a day in the woods looking for cow elk for him to put his tag on. He was lucky enough to have drawn a second chance tag on a late season cow hunt in a unit south of our house. Fresh snow had fallen on Sunday and the thermometer when we left the house Tuesday morning read 2 degrees. We had blue bird skies with no wind which made for a beautiful but chilly day in the woods.

Elk were spotted and a brief stalk was made to just under 160 yards. My son lay prone across my pack and made a great double lung shot with his 243 on this fat cow!

We spent the next couple of hours reveling in our good fortune, breaking her down and getting her back to the truck which lead to this!

Happy new year and may 2015 be full of health, prosperity and limited entry tags!

Congrats to the young hunter and an atta boy to you for making it happen.

He'll never forget that day!

Congrats to you and your son. It seem I see more and more kids pictures on this site all the time. Great job getting them out guys!

Well done!! That is awesome!

Every time I see pictures like the ones with your son and his elk, I can't help but think someday, 15 or 20 years from now, he will be posting that picture on Hunt Talk in the 'Good 'Ole Days' thread. Bet he will have a smile on his face that day too!! ;)

We're making memories here...
