No, I'm not referring to anyone in particular. It just seems that when someone starts loosing ground on one side or the other of a discussion, the childish insults start flying.

Never forced the vaxx? Unless you wanted to keep your job, pay your bills, go to school, travel, etc…. etc….
I guess they didn’t tackle people and force it into their arm but it was forced on many people in other ways.

Does anyone remember your induction physical? We were forced to take a whole slew of vaccines that we didn't even know what they were. Not a single one would make you bullet proof.

As one trained in the hard sciences, I think we have bent over backwards to invest in STEM. It is not high school STEM failing, it is the egocentric drive of some with STEM credentials to politicize nearly every field of science rather than to continue to teach and challenge assumptions and perceived truths through rigorous fact based inquiry (the core role of the sciences). The STEM pundits need to get off the talk shows on back into the lab and the classroom. They need to stop "p-hacking" and making grand unsupported pronouncements from minimal data. They have driven not enlightenment, but the very skepticism we see in this thread. I am shocked and dismayed at the clueless anti-vaxxers and flat earthers, but they didn't arise out of nowhere, they weren't created by poor STEM education, they were created by arrogance and the politicization of science by people who should have known better.

I have never met a person who was an anti-vaxxer because the failed to fully understand the reverse transcriptase enzyme at the heart of RNA viruses. They are anti-vaxxers because they learned to distrust the public facing scientists and regulators who have made many mistakes (which is unavoidable, science is never 100% certain) but failed to own up to those mistakes and be held accountable for those mistakes. Where is the accountability for the questionable science that said drug addiction was caused by a refusal to provide necessary pain medications and that the solution was to flood society with painkillers and trust folks would know when/how to use them? Where is the accountability for folks that dramatically overstated the real value of paper masks and created a cultural schism over that misplace directive? Where is the accountability for the folks that said trans fats were healthier than animal fats? I could go on for pages.

We don't need to educate people about STEM, we need to have those entrusted with our STEM systems to be clear, apolitical, humble, and accountable.

I'm thankfully married to a valedictorian Dr. of Pharmacy that has worked in the hospital her entire career. Did cancer research in college, very, very smart as Trump would say lol....

Lots of smart people out there that can interpret unbiased statistical data from research articles. Unfortunately, the whole thing was so politicized, as you mentioned above the average American is left holding the bag wondering which way is up. Scientist get bought out and information is suppressed to a point you have to have a PHD to have the ability to interpret the truth data.

I think most of the smart trustworthy people I know in the medical field would never tell someone with absolute certainty there is one best way to handle the vaccine. It comes down to many factors (current health condition, age, co-morbidity, contact with high risk, ect, ect.). My wife saw doctors on both sides of the isle re-gurgitation what they heard on their favorite news channel, and it really frustrated her. What happened to respecting studies published in medical journals and being able to ask questions.

I heard similar things from doctors also during that time. Issues becoming politicized just makes them impossible to navigate.

"Hey thanks doc, I also listen to the news, but you did all this schooling to become a doctor, what's your professional opinion?"
Then once I cracked the little shell they were in, they would usually say something along the lines of "If you feel it's necessary, then get it. If you're healthy and have already had it, there isn't a great reason to get it."

Anyone should ask their doctor if their kids are vaccinated for Covid. The answers might surprise a few of you.

I think you have a much broader definiton of "science" than I do.

Science requires carefull consideration, data, incorporation of peer review, statistics and probablities. The ultimate decision can still be off as science is dynamic, we learn new things all the time.

What you are describing is people who ran with something that was not supported by good science. People with an agenda, or people looking to sell something--often rely on research or claims that do not have broad reviewed support from folks in respective fields.

You are also making the same mistake anti vaxxers make--that if something is perfect and 100 percent accurate, it can't be relied upon at all.

To address just one of your points, I didn't see infectious disease experts saying masks worked to keep you from getting covid--what they were saying was that wearing them helps contain the virus you might be carrying more than not wearing one at all, especially before vaccines were broadly available.

Not perfect--but better than nothing.

They were also saying cheap masks aren't much better than nothing right off the bat, get an N95 mask (which were scarce early on due to slow federal recognition of need under the Trump administration--other countries had a supply faster than we did, even domestic manufacturers had contracts of them overseas before the US finally realized the need). Policy folks--not scientists--took that message a bit too far.

Note what they say about a country that had high mask adoption and how their rates of Covid were MUCH less than countries that did not within weeks of initial exposure. And thats while saying their works suggests less than 50 percent effectiveness!

Are they perfect? No, far from it. But again, people that think 100 percent effective is the only measure of worth is why we have so many problems, and that IMO stems from their basic lack of understanding of science.

Put me in the hospital about 2 years ago, first time in my life I had to spend a night in the hospital.

Talked with 2 heart specialists, 2 vascular specialists, and a hematologist that was the most intelligent Doctor I've ever talked to.

Every single one of them said my condition was caused by COVID. The one vascular doctor I talked with, I asked him what the odds were that COVID caused my blood clot issue. He said, "100%, anyone that tells you different, tell them they're full of shit".

Biden will step out whether or not his covid status has anything to do with it and won’t be replaced by Harris. Maybe Newsome or Whitmer or someone else but not Kamala.

The gaslighting to bash all things Covid vax is comical. Hindsight is 20/20 and of course by what we know now it all seems draconian. Easy to forget those first few months when Italy and NYC had freezer trucks full of bodies when the morgues were at capacity and watching all news outlets run a ticking death toll. As for those complaining of being “forced” to vax to interact in public, live a hermit then. People in the smallpox and polio eras were wildly cheering when those vaccines came out. Bitching about vaccines is a very modern luxury and epitome of first world problem. I realize it was overdone and measures were enacted for too long but it’s also very easy to throw the baby out with the bath water and judge all decisions using current info which is completely unfair and arrogant.
