Best Scope for 6.5 CM

Well then. Suddenly I'm happier I went with the vortex for my new rig.

You can get more than 1 rotation if you move to target knobs, correct (on the Leupold)?

I’ve never had the target knobs so not sure on that. The M1 use to have reference marks under the turret so you could go multiple revolutions and still be able to get back to your zero.

I have a 6.5 CM I want to shoot longer range with it say 800-900 yds. But be able to hand to a kid and have them use it just fine at shorter ranges. Here is my thoughts and the parameters I have in my head:
  1. max min to be 5x
  2. at least 16x min max?
  3. Not a "busy" scope reticle wise because a kid could get confused. I have a Burris eliminator on one 6.5 and the kids have trouble with how busy it is and focusing on the crosshairs
  4. Turret for yardage with zero stop
  5. about $600-$700 max
the new nightforce NX6 would be a great scope and they are on the more affordable side of the house

If you’re considering Vortex at all (I wouldn’t), I would instead take a look at the Arken EPL4 4-16. I don’t find the reticle to be too busy at all and for the distance you want to shoot, being able to see splash, measure with the reticle, and adjust elevation and windage from there is critical IMO. For kids, you could always turn the illumination on or tell them to just aim with the only dot in the reticle. A super simple reticle, like a duplex, and shooting those distances doesn’t go together very well.

I have one on a 223 and it tracks great, glass is good for the price, parallax is smooth, and it seems to be a very great value. I have shot it well down into subsonic distances with my 223 and it is really enjoyable to shoot. I also really like aiming with a dot for some reason, and it’s hard for me to go back to a duplex.

I haven’t dropped it off the roof of my house yet to see if it will hold zero (sarcasm), but the cult following of the people I know that have them say they are pretty durable, and I’ve heard some good stories. I’ve been tempted to buy another for sure.
