Not asking for units or success rates or antler scores. I’m asking the general locations you’ve hunted in the west that have been a perfect place and/or time to watch the sun rise or set or spend a week with good friends. Each state has its own flavor. I’m from the east so I can’t even scout from the highway.

I would say that nowhere I have hunted in the West failed to be beautiful....From my first ever big game animal (WTD) in the Paloose with wolves howling in the evening, to my first elk in the Flat Tops (which is also our yearly camp), to pronghorn and p-dogs in dusty WY, to geese on the flats of NE CO to ducks in the misty sloughs off the North Platte in Nebraska........beauty EVERYWHERE

That’s a good question...

Top 5 would be:

The most beautiful place would have to be the Bears Ears in Utah San Juan elk ridge unit.

I also love the landscape in north AZ canyon county (12bw and 12ae are the two i have hunted).

I went on a horse back elk hunt in the Unitas in Utah just below Kings Peak were we didn’t see another person for for 2 weeks and it was picture perfect high alpine country.

Unit 9 in AZ holds a special place in my mind. Different country but very beautiful.

I have spent more time in the three corners area of UT, CO, and WY than anywhere. The colors from the red rocks around the gorge are amazing and the green is an absolutely beautiful river.

I am very lucky to call SW Montana my home, the mountains, valleys, plains, and rivers offer some of the most photogenic landscapes in the world.

My favorite however is the badlands of Western North Dakota and Eastern Montana. For an easy access taste of these rugged and beautiful lands, check out Makoshika State Park in Glendive, MT.

Breathtaking
