My last hunt was the fall of 08 thanks to uncle sam. I'm dying to get out and do some hunting. Headed to Alaska in about 6 weeks for brown bear on the peninsula. Just curious who all is headed out for bears soon. Post up some pics of last year's if you got em.

Go to SE Alaska and hunting black bears on May 2nd. Looking forward to that one.

Afraid I might not have time to do the MT bear gig, even though I have a tag in my pocket. Might have to keep that one in tact until they hit the berries in late October.

I'll be going after the locals blackies like crazy this year. Should have almost all of the second half of May off. Can't wait.

Logistics all squared away now Fin?

It seems that way. Fly to PSG, then take a beaver out to the cabin, where I am having a skiff dropped off for me to use.

But those of us who have hunted AK know that logistics are not always in tact until you are there hunting and maybe even more importantly, on your way home with a vault full of great memories.

Appreciate the help you guys gave. Unfortunately, those good folks were not able to help me.

I am flying on Pacific Air Charters, out of Petersburg. Gotta fly in at a high tide and will still have a pretty good tote to get all the gear to the cabin.

Gary at Hollis Bay Cabins is dropping off one of his skiffs, along with fuel, salt, ice, cooler, fishing gear, and then will come back and pick it up when I am done.

These folks all seem to be happy to help and given the recommendations people make of them, I expect it to be a great hunt. How much adventure, who knows, but seems to have a lot of potential.

The steelhead action should be great. That was one thing Jose and I didn't do, was bring fishing gear and I think we both regretted it. Hey, the crabbing was great...even if the bear hunting was slow going. ;-)

Every time I watch Gonzaga playing basketball, I am reminded of Mark Few's "Yacht" across the bay, anchored so he could slay the Steelhead.....

Mark Few's yacht had nothing on ours. I mean do you honestly thing he felt the icy Pacific water as dall porpoise splashed in his wake??? I think not.

I'm going crazy waiting for spring bear!!! Winter is my favorite time of year but we have hit the point where theres too much snow to go look for sheds and theres not much to hunt now.

My spring is pretty busy without adding in bear hunting but I'm going to make it out as much as possible. Also have a fly out trip planned the end of May and might take the gun along just in case we see a bear.

Heck I even bought a bear gun a few weeks ago. .338 win mag

Taking the CZ .375, swapping out the straight 4x for a 3-9x Looking at the Zeiss Conquest

Nice!!! I'm a pussy for big cals so I'm deathly afraid of the .338. I haven't even shot it yet. I ended up sticking a Leupold 4-12x on it for now.

I'm very jealous you are going to the Penn. Thats on my 5 year plan. Been researching it a lot and am hopefully going to go in 2012!

G L and if you have some time to kill in ANC and we're around hit us up!

Ernesto

Did this hunt in 2002...it was a great time. I only need one big brownie, so if I'm successful I will pass on the gouge. My best advice is to go where everyone else isn't going...i.e. the bays.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

Can't wait to see the results. ANOTHER internet legend in the makes? :D

I eff'ed that up...everyone is going to the bay areas, go inland more. That is what I meant to say...damn it is late.

any time spent in OK is late time.........

I've read tony russ's book......twice. So that should increase my odds from 5 to 10% I figure.:D

I didn't come to AK to shoot a stinkin moose. Or a caribou. MT goat? Well I guess since they are legal to shoot. Sheep? 1 will be enough.

I want a brown bear and an interior grizz. Heck I want 5 of each. Might even mount them all and build a house around them. A whole sloth of bears to great everyone......

Between hunting bears and hunting sheds I think I could stay busy year round up here ;)

I see you made your bed :D

As for bears, Depending on the job situation; I've got a Hunt planned late May on the Kenai Pen. Where hopefully, I'll watch the GF put down her first black bear. Other than that, packing and skinning a few I hope. Im not much one for bear killing but I love being on the hunt!

For all you seward highway road hunters; once you cross the creek and get out of the alders.. It's all gravy from there.
