I'm headed to new mex in 10 days elk hunting and I noticed an OTC bear tag is reasonable.
Since I'm already going to be there!

How would you bear hunters do it?

Hopefully, I have a big assed gut pile to sit over from that monster elk im gonna bag

Any Suggestions?

Thanks guys and COOL pics Deerking
(but I didnt notice any apple trees in new mex natl forest last trip)

I spent 12 days glassing/hunting and did not see a bear last year, but I really dont know a thing about bear hunting. I noticed a slope called gooseberry on my topo and perhaps some type of berry is ripe in sept?

And yes, the predator call is packed!

JB,

Timing is everything. If the prickly pear are in season when you are out here, glass the prickly pear flats at first light. If they aren't out in the open eating prickly pear, they will probably be back in the bush feasting on Juniper and manzanita berries. Thick stuff and a real pain to glass them there.
