Trying to figure out the Area Specific Hunts in CA. Can anyone provide some basic info on them if I actually draw a tag for one of the listed hunts?

Are these hunts public for the general season as well? How big of an area is the designated hunts. Is it even worth waisting a choice or am I better off with just getting an AO and try a specific somewhere else. My apologies on my lack of knowledge but the app/draw system in CA has me a bit confused....

Normally the archery specific hunts are either and early season or late season tag depending on which hunt. There also are varying numbers of tags depending on the hunt. Some have very limited tags. Some hunts are a specific area within a zone and some are a larger area.
Most of the tags are a draw tag and some even require Max points to guarantee a tag.
In general they can be a much less crowded and better hunt that say your AO tag.

Between Bass Hill, Lake Sonoma and Monterey which would you recommend. If you’re familiar

Ryan, you are asking questions many of us have spent time looking at the regs and harvest success % to learn. You have until June to do your homework.

First, All those hunts will likely require some points. Do you have any points?

Second, Find OTC opportunities in those areas to get a feel for the ground. An AO tag will work for A, B and D zones as will a bear tag. A Pig Tag can get you on Lake Sonoma.

I hear you. I’ve been deep in the regs and stats for a little bit just needed some clarification on some points.

I’ve harvested a couple pigs and turkeys (not Archery) but that’s it. I plan on going the AO route in 2020 to get familiar.

Haven’t personally hunted any of those you listed but I’d say Bass hill and maybe you get lucky in the random tag draw.
