rolled in last night from the big montana road trip. wow, what a great place the western states are! the whole point of the trip was to help decide where we would like to start as montana residents. the wife and i have both traveled mt extensivelly and lived there in the past so we had some ideas as to what we did and did not want to visit. the trip was a huge success. we found a few places that are just way over and above our expectations and of course acouple that were not what we expected at all.{bummer} the bottom line was that there is not really a bad place to be in montana and to just get our selves out there. we can always move again later. that being said, it looks like the areas of choice are. swan valley, from condon to ovando, wow, the areas just south of seeley lake in particular really got my attention. trout creek and plains, out of this world, the clark fork river and surrounding area are just fantastic. the missouri river from great falls to helena is outstanding but a bit crowded for my taste. lewistown and deerlodge were both as i remembered them and not at all bad places. i know that a lot of mt natives badmouth missoula and bozeman, but to me they are great compaired to greatfalls or billings. just opinion. livingston was surprisingly nice for being so close to the park and on the interstate. the area down around redlodge is also of some special interest. after the trip was winding down we went down to cody to the buffalo bill museum. cody is the single most beautiful city i have ever seen. if you like wild west, it has it all. spent the night in the irma and went to the museum had a blast. montana is such a diverse place that you are hard put to pick a favorite spot i will be happy where ever we land i am sure. i would say that my perfect spot is somewhere along the missouri from mcclellnd ferry to james kipp bridge but due to having young boys and a need to make a living that area will have to wait. later tonight we will be eating elk steak, courtesy of elkchaser, who came up to deerlodge with his darling wife laura, to meet us for coffee. that was really a treat to get together with someone who you only know thru a web page. his good company and generosity were one of the high points of the trip. well now all i have to do is get this place sold and head that way. it seems that there are no really bad places in montana. twodot ps, bighorn ram, i didn't see your post until i got home yesterday. would have loved to have met you. thanks for the invite. twodot

Twodot,

Looks like you looked over Montana pretty good. I don't think you can go too wrong with any place in Montana that you decide to move to. Good luck with your decision, and send me a PM if you need any additional information.

Hey Jeff

Glad to see you made it back home, it was great meeting with you and your wife Sarah and very good kids.

It was a great get together and I hope we can get together again soon, I think you will do good where ever you move to out here...

Russ... :)
