Pretty good hunt. Lots of elk, the rut can be a little spotty on hot/dry years, and the size of bulls isn't what it used to be. But still lots of animals to hunt.
There are elk top to bottom in that unit, even the very sparsely vegetated country in the north. But I would focus my time in the pines or junipers. If the rut is spotty you can get in the PJ country and glass to locate bulls without relying on bugles. There are a couple deep canyons but I have never had to get in them, just hunt the ridges between and the edges.
