As they lay

Calling bobcats and coyotes gets me thru the winter. Settled in on a 17 wsm as my cat calling cartridge with the right blend of lethality with minimal damage after trying 223,204 and 22wmr. Reasonably accurate too.View attachment 397914

What are some of your preferred cat sounds? Setup advice?

I’m an effective yote hunter and want to try cats more.

They aren’t hard to call. Higher pitched rabbit, bird or rodent seems to work well. The “shelterbelt” cottontail sound on the Lucky Duck caller has been good this year. Brushy draws with rock piles is what I look for. I use a decoy and sit for @45 minutes. Wind doesn’t seem to matter but setting up in the shade is important since they look around a lot before they commit. This is where a decoy helps. Setting up 50 yds uphill from the caller where you can scan the surrounding brush is good. Time of day doesn’t seem to matter as I’ve killed 4 this year right around noon.
Good luck!

I know a good spot!

Even a moose hunt can turn into a coyote hunt. Opening weekend of archey for my moose tag. Hot and no moose out in the open or spotted for that matter. Decided to climb a rock pile to glass over a small hill halfway down the stubble and low and behold 2 adults and 3 pups out playing and mousing the den. Came back the next day about same time this time packin' the .204. Had to slip into the neighboring corn a few rows heading west all the way to the middle of the section and slide down another fence line now headed north to close the distance. This pup was the only one that didn't go out hunting that evening. Spent 2 hrs on that stalk. But Dang Fun! First time using that bogpod. That's a keeper for sure.
