Hi new to the forum from VA. I've hunted otc archery in 14 for 5 trips now. Have a blast every year and just now feeling like i have a clue of what Im doing. I've had opportunities every trip but have just taken 1 cow so far. Really want to get my first legal bull on the ground. I have enough points to draw unit 5 this year which borders 14. I've spent a little time in it deer hunting. Anyone have experience in 5. Will it be worth it starting over this year? Looking into shield mountain and nipple peak area. Thank you in advance for any opinions. Feel free to pm if you want. Thanks and God bless

I think from my experience units 4/5 hold more elk but I would stay with unit 14 if looking for a big bull. Most if not all the ek I have seen fro Units 4/5 are just legal bulls and have seen mostly cows taken in those units as there is large elk population there.I personally would not waist a lot of points on those units when an OTC units are just as good .

Thank you for the info. I'm not really looking for a big bull yet. A legal bull or another cow is just fine for now. I'll probably hunt my same area and do some more scouting in 5 since I'll have a deer tag. Last year was real tough for some reason. I still have a lot to learn so the more new ground i cover will hopefully help me out. Thanks again

i know this thread is old. would anyone recommend this unit as OTC rifle hunt?
