April Showers.

1.5" starting at 3am this morning...83 or so high. Tolerable.
Saw there was some heavy rains out your way...I wish.

Looks like high 80's for the week and storms building to the east. At least it's not 90's and above 100...unbearable for me now.

The watering of my house area pinions has helped. The yellow tops and ends of branches has turned to pollen cones lower developing and the tops are pushing new growth. Moisture allows them to push more sap and kills the IPPs beetle.

One perfect Christmas tree pinion, 12ft tall, just died in a week. Trees next to it fine.
Neighbors have lost whole groves.

Come on monsoons!!!!

Finally.
2nd downpour of the afternoon.
In between I went and got a big fresh bale of alfalfa and got it unloaded...boots 2 inches high and they come undone as I get back to the truck.

Elk out feeding in open midday. Looking sleek now that the winter coats are gone. Still thin.

14 fires going in NM, lightning strikes.

Not sure where exactly your place is but I've heard you mention Pietown in the past. There looked to be some good showers and storms there yesterday and again today. I didn't realize how long the drought has been going on there, until I looked at the drought monitor. After 2 years of drought you are guys are overdue for some beneficial rain

Good to hear about the rain.

Not so much about the skinny elk and fires.

I’ve somehow been missing your posts, always look forward to reading your observations.

Half a dozen short downpours more. One good one.
Puddles. Lightning.

Dotti has the evening watch on the porch. She just warned of an elk herd heading down for food and water.
They stay 100 yards out, kicking hooves free of mud. Playing.

Sunny next week before the next bout. Enough time for the gramma to grow. Enough water to grow. Now.

Another doozy. Power out, for some.
Not us.

Video chat with oncologist tomorrow. All blood work looks good. PSA still .02..................
I'll start the morning with a looksee.

Guess is 1/2"...I'll check later. Muddy.

The elk went south, tracks headed there, due to yote factor down below. After prairie dogs...the only thing they seem to try for.

Nothing hit the hay. The young cows knew trouble was down there.
Plenty of water in bedding areas I imagine.

Extreme fire winds thru Sun. Blowing already so the mud will be short lived.
Getting very smokey from the UT Beaver fire, a bad one.

Land based tornado hit Los Lunas, some damage. Bizzare.
Fence line rains, lucky some came inside my fence.

Oh yeah, it's Sat. No Dr. til Tues. LOL

-1 dew point, 10 % humidity.............it's a dry heat.
90 and breezy.
Smoke from the Sacaton fire in the Gila piling and blowing east all day.
Smoke from UT & CO now filtering in for an orange sunset.

Went down this morning to check on the bale condition and in the lollipop junipers near the bottom was 6 cows bedded, then 12, then 30.
I backed out and half bedded back down.
All healthy looking year old cows. Sleek and shiney.

Then went to dump and got rid of old freezer meat and such.
Everyone went...lol.
Market had been cleaned out of vanilla ice cream...none. Found some Peaches and Cream Tillamook...I have peaches. "It's the Mormons I tell ya!"
Stopped for gas and progress on my Ford with the new head lights going in today.

Good DR. visit this week and thumbs up from him. Keep truckin'.

Tri-tip tacos for dinner. Dotti in race mood now.
Maybe rain by Sun. again.

Its a tough life.

Red sun came up. Looked like overcast clouds, but smoke was flowing high. Very smokey at sunset in my valley.
Clear sky now with smoke from Sacaton fire heading east. 5500 ac and burned up to the fire from last month. Willow under go orders, warning.

Dotti saw some elk leave just now and kept them at bay. 6 young cows stayed 300 yards away and walked by heading up to the mesa.
Just barked from my road loop. No running or constant barking. Just a few to warn them off.
Good girl.

Maybe rain still Mon. or Tues. now. Just a matter of time for the real deal.

I always am hopeful...usually after the 4th in SW NM.
Driest on record and hottest. Half inch did not help much. Need some frog stranglers.
Gotta get past us for you west CO folks or UT. AZ is dying too.

Got email from Dept. of Wildlife just now. Hank has a LO MB tag this year. I'm up...
No cow tags in 3 years.

Had a bull down there a few days ago...he left calling cards.
Poor me, I always get shat on...LOL

Reminds me to order new burlap tarp to gather alfalfa stem left full of it. Excellent fertilizer.

Smoky in the City Different yesterday, not so much today. Seems warmer than usual. Driving back to real heat & humidity tomorrow.

Cleared up a bunch and the wind has died down some here. But its 93 again.
Ran the sprinkler around the house to keep the grass and wildflowers going. Also calm enough to burn a steak later.
