Anyone recognize these?

I picked up 100 of these as seconds from Midway a couple years ago. They are solid copper, .30. cal, 168 gr. HPBT. They are machined and marked as match grade. They are excellent expanding bullets. I would like to get some more for a buddies .308 . I'm getting -3/4" groups at 100 yds

I think Hammer has always been direct to consumer. Can't remember ever seeing them on Midway.

They do not look like Hammers. The grooves and bands are different on hammers. Hammers also have more pronounced and a larger radius on their bands.

They are definitely not Hammers. Hammers quality far surpasses these. Like I said, they were packaged as seconds. They could be overruns. They are similar to barnes tsx but I don't have one in hand to compare to.

How do they look when they expand? Several of the boutique bullet mfgs have special expansion profiles.

I don't have a bullet in hand to check expansion. The "field" test is 100+-lb hog at 100+ yds. No pass through. Hog dropped where he stood and was left for the buzzards.

166 Hammer Hunters work pretty good in my .30-06 if you can't find any of those. For short range work, the Stone Hammer is proving deadly. mtmuley

I have some hammers that I'm going to get rid of. Probably 3/4 of a box and a sealed box. They are far too expensive when I can get the same amount of dead with a different bullet.
I'm not looking for another bullet. I'm trying to match these for a guy that is moving out of state. These bullets work great but I don't have time to work up a different load in the few days he will be around before moving to okie-homa.

Yep, your right on that one but if you don't ask,,, it's been a clown show from the start. He needed some copper in a hurry so I threw together a couple different loads with a couple different bullets at oem specs. These grouped unbelievable for no testing. Then he says I'm moving back to Oklahoma next week can he get a hundred or so. I only have 53 left and no time to work something up especially because I don't have the rifle in hand. Simplest solution is to find some bullets that probably don't exist.

It’s maybe Cutting Edge though Midway offers a good amount of Lehigh as well. The expansion will help identify but no telling now if that hog died of a fractured bullet or a full curl. The spur on the base is likely the reason they were factory second. Or maybe these were all test prototypes never intended for production.

Yes, I used 44 gr. Varget as I remember.. I got a 4" group

I've never had a 4" group with any bullet with any powder in any cartridge. Bummer. mtmuley

I was down in the creek shooting squirrels when I wrote it. Pulling info out of my head doesn't work sometimes. 4" did seem kind of extreme so I came home and measured it. Much closer to 2-5/8" than 4. Facts remain that the unobtanium bullets grouped well and the guy still couldn't afford the hammers

As has been said not hammers. I have some makers and one box of cutting edge. Cutting edge has a much better finish on the box I have. For lehigh I only have a box of pistol bullets no nubs mild concave base. I checked my boxes of makers. My oldest box that I got several years ago does have nubbins. Their finishes have improved since then. All of the makers I have visible slits on the bullets but I also have only bought their hunting bullets. They might not bother on their match stuff.

I don't think it's too cool to send a picture to a manufacturer that you know isn't their bullet.
It doesn't look like the Barnes are lathe turned. The Hammer machine quality is superb where the Barnes appears to be cast and polished.

I guess if one is still unsure then maybe. Also one can compare with pics on the Hammer website. Fortunately Hammer sells sample packs. Personally I wouldn't feel slighted about it, but others may.
