They have a decent sale on right now for 6 person canvass tents and wondered if any of you use or have one.Thinking about getting one for a base camp for when I hunt western states now with my boys.My other thought was a cargo trailer and when I'm not using for work I could put cots and a heater in it so sleeping.Plus with that, I could haul a grill along in it for cooking, and a 4 wheeler if roads are bad for my truck
Anyone use a cargo trailer as a base camp?A used 6x10 cargo trailer is about the same cost as a canvass walltent

6x10 works great for 2 people. I dont see how you could make it work for more than 2.

Scott,
I have a canvas tent I got from Reliable Tent in Montana. Mine is 10 x 12. I love it. Perfect for me and my wife for 3 weeks in Alaska. 3 or 4 men could make it work for a week or so. We use a little buddy heater, not the big one, and a propane tank for heat.
I have used it in Idaho down to -10 and snow. Alaska at 30 and rain. Nothing but good to say about canvas tents.

I have the 9x14 Kodiak canvas and it has been great for me and I can fit 3 cots in it if need be. I usually do 2 cots and a table between them with a heater and lanterns and whatnot. It actually folds down rather small too.

thanks,I guess I'll go buy one.I know a 6 man cant hold that many unless youre on top of each other.I just need it for me and my son for now until my youngest is old enough to hunt. Its also good to know the smaller heater will be enough.
thanks for replies

I just received a flyer from Cabelas last week. They had the Kodiak tents 25% off. I have the 10x14 Kodiak and I love it. Even though I primarily used it solo, I wouldn't go for the 10x10. Go big or go home.

I used to have an outfitter tent, but I found that I needed a trailer to haul all the camping gear anyways, so I eliminated the tent. +1 for Kodiak canvas tents also, I use a smaller one for Scout camping.

Kolbeck- you got any more pics of that trailer?

What is it insulated with? Is that melamine on the walls? What size trailer?

That's what I was thinking with buying a trailer.I'd have to haul a bunch of other gear and probably a 4 wheeler.I have lightweight tents in case we'd have to bivy in a ways for a couple days. The Kodiak tent is what I was looking at if I go that route.Good to hear everyone likes them. The trailer would cost me 2k more then just the tent, but I can write the trailer off on my business taxes

Broken- I have a few more pics that I'll put up when I get back to my laptop, can't figure out how to re-size pics from an iPad. It's a 7x18 and hauls 2 full size Atv's, 16' would do it if I didn't have the countertop up front. I'm not a DIY'er, it was ordered insulated, factory installed windows. A local RV dealer had the cabinets custom done, wired it and installed a camper furnace. Never have run across such a word as "melamine"

Mixed- also the trailer makes a great place to store camping gear in the off season.
