O.K. my buddy wants to know if anyone has ever seen or heard of a "backpacking cot". He has a high country camp that is at about 9000' in the Frank Church Wilderness. What he is thinking about doing is packing a cot in on his back. Any ideas on a lightweight packable cot?

They're out there but they're not that great to sleep on. Your buddy is better off hauling in an extra good quality pad or two. The problem with that is the rats will chew them.

He's better off packing in an military ammo can or two and using them to store heavier stuff like a stove, fuel, cook pot or spare clothes and then pack in a light item like a pad. You can stuff a 4 man tent and a sleeping bag in the bigger ones (ie 20mm). The cans are weather tight and critter proof.

Oh, and tell your buddy not to forget the Midol--if he needs a cot then he probably needs that too:rolleyes:
