Anyone drive in South Africa?

Went last year and PH drove all the time. Headed back in a couple weeks and will have 5 days before hunt starts. Considering renting a car. Will be in Port Elizabeth Eastern Cape. Any experiences that you can share?

I rented a car and drove around Cape Town and Franschhoek for a week. The two issues are driving on the other side of the road and knowing what neighborhoods/areas to avoid. Not sure how the eastern cape is, but would probably hire a driver next time. It was pretty stressful

When there are neighborhoods near the airport known to throw bricks at passing tourists and exits on highways near particularly dangerous “townships” that you should NEVER get off.. best to have a local driving.

When we picked up the rental car the guy who gave me the keys said -“Don’t stop for anything or anyone until you get to the waterfront. Don’t get off any exits. Don’t help any stranded motorists. If you break down call emergency services, lock the doors and close the windows, don’t get out.”
