Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

18 years from retirement, I don’t mind buying at a slight discount every once in awhile. I don’t stress over it. Do my contribution once a month and mostly forget about it for the next month. It’s boring, but has been pretty effective for the last 20 years.

Overall my economic situation has improved through every 4 year stint. The sky is falling crowd simply wants to believe the sky will fall because it somehow makes them feel better about their beliefs
I do think this is true for folks that were lucky enough to own assets. I don’t think it’s true for the young folks coming up. I don’t see how my boys 1 and 3 will have any chance to amass the wealth I have amassed mostly from asset appreciation when they are my age. The math don’t math. I think that is the crux of the issue. From my view the boomers have and continue to be the most selfish destructive generation ever in America. They got their American dream, future generations be damned.

If you make good decisions and teach them to make good decisions, they will have plenty of wealth. Boomers will die and there wealth will be redistributed

Are you paying attention to what is happening in France? Some of that will be coming to big US cities in the near future, IMO.
Yes, but take a look at France's economic metrics versus the US. Ours are worse. The screams about "See, that's socialism" are almost comical when you look at the numbers. Certainly could happen here, but I'm not sure it would be isolated to cities.

This is not a political debate... But you just saw a party win that elected people who openly hate capitalism. The majority of the money in the market is held by people over 55 years old. Mass majority of them over 55 see Socialism as disgusting and far different than the woman and young voters.
Ridiculous. You are painting with a broad brush because of your political beliefs. Your view is quite debateable. Majority of people over 55 are collecting Social Security and Medicare too, so that part of socialism they like. I love capitalism, but young people have a legit beef as corporations and the mega wealthy buy politicians for their personal gain while they struggle to save.

Yesterday's candle was certainly not normal, but also certainly not any sort of anti-capitalism tsunami. I'm looking to see how the rotations play out. Healthcare names look more interesting to me as a buy than a sell. Energy might present an opportunity because I doubt peace will break out any time soon. Anything in Tech is a trade and nothing more. More leaning toward long. Americans are gamblers.

What's ridiculous is you asked for the reason I sold but won't accept it as the truth to why I sold. You can't rebalance without selling. I said this wasn't a debate, it's a reason. Is it you don't believe me or just don't like it? Lol

Good point. But you started with “it’s not political” and gave a political belief that is BS.

If you're an FA I'd never hire you as you obviously would not listen to clients. You're the one who asked me to say why people are selling and it's impossible to say what I myself did without it being about politics. Christ sake, it's 2 days after an election. How else can i describe it without you being butthurt by someone else's opinion? I was way too invested in stocks and I my belief is the future is risky so I'm rebalancing. You don't have to like the message but you need to swallow what people say if you ask a reason why they did something.

This is percisely because those old folks paid a lot LESS to fund the socialism they are receiving off of the "young folks" open to socialism. Theyre paying for a lot of socialism to the statistically very rich.

Socialism for country club boomers and an economy where middle class people under 30 kind of "dream" about home buying - are you really suprised young people finally want their own cut of it?

The most outrageous part of the maga brand and trump was the all out death nail they put in any entitlement reform.

Time in the market had nothing to do with it huh?

I'm not sure if Social Security was purposely designed to pit one generation against another, but that's how it plays out in reality. When I was a young newly starting out self employed contractor in the 90s, I was hired by a couple recently retired contractors to do some small projects around their homes. They were both friends and neighbors, and where vocally excited about finally being able to draw out of Social Security instead of paying into it for all those years. They could hire me to do all the honeydo's their wife's had been on them to do for years. They were going to use the funds as fun money to golf and do other old retired guy activities. Have to admit, it rubbed me little wrong at the time. Now I'm the same age as they were back then, and have a little better understanding where they were coming from. Someday you will reach that age, and the younger generations will feel about you the same way you feel today. That's just human nature, I suppose.
