Bought a tikka 6.5 creedbro and traded the bolt to another guy for his magnum bolt and had my friend ream it to 6.5 prc and cut and thread the barrel at 17”. New mag and a grinder to the bolt stop and she’s ready to go. I’m hoping it will break 2800fps with 140 Berger vld. Also have some 109 grain absolute hammers to play with in it. Suppressor screwed on and it’s the perfect length

Those Hammers will more than take care of any loss of speed caused by shorting the barrel. Should be plenty accurate.

What powder will you start with? I have a .30-06 with a 19" barrel and have had good luck using H 4895. I'm not worried about velocity in mine, but the fast burning powder does a good job reducing muzzle flash. I guess your can will help with that too...

H1000 on the 140s

H4350 on the 109.

Tested out the 140s tonight. Magentospeed battery died on me but was at 2760fps on the last one that read and wasn’t close to max yet. Will get a fresh battery in it and do some more testing probably Sunday

You should be able to get 3000+ with your 6.5-06. I know the 4 or 5 I’ve owned did pretty easily with h1000. RL26 did wonders to them as well but wasn’t a fan of the temp swings with it


Been a while since I’ve had a box of 143 eldx to look at but I’m pretty sure they have more bearing surface than a 140 Berger vld. Figure 30fps/inch puts me right at 2830fps with h1000 according to hornady data.

9 inches shorter than the barrel I just ordered. I'm not there yet. But, like was said, the Hammer will pick up some of the lost velocity. mtmuley
