I'm not sure how the MT party tags works exactly, but I presume that all the applicants in a "party" get one shot in a drawing, vs all of them having their own chance if they applied separately? Seems like the odds of drawing as a party would at least 50% less than as an individual, yet if they draw they take twice as many permits. IMO, that seems like a pretty fair trade off for the sucky draw odds.
While that may be true, if a party draws, 3 tags are gone from the quota in the mule deer buck area I apply for. If several party applicants draw before individuals behind them, odds decrease dramatically. I am most concerned about areas with VERY low permit numbers. mtmuley

Unless the dept issues for permit shortages the party is at a disadvantage as well.
