Another One Bites The Dust... So long Kuiu

Last edited:
Surprised it took so long for this to happen. Maybe covid caused a gap. I’m sure it got more difficult running a premium, niche clothing company when tariffs came. Like Mystery Ranch, I doubt much changes near term. But it is always tough to see small business get swallowed.

Just got back from a pheasant hunt in Kansas and both the Denver airport and Salt Lake airport are advertising KUIU on screens throughout.

Is there an example of Private Equity working to make the brand better?
Bass Pro/Cabelas and VooDoo are counter examples off the top of my head.

Well, Colorado is really just North Texas so.....
Uhhhh ….. not really. A quick look at Colorado politics and even a visit to a wildlife commission meeting would dispel that. When I listen to the crazy Denver/Boulder crowd I often ask myself, where did they come from? Texas never comes to mind…..

Sure - look at "shark tank" successes.

Personally - I dont think that PE has a lot of success buying a matured company that doesnt need more capital or access to markets/supply chains. I dont see a ton of potential for "growth" in kuiu - unless its expanding lines to more casual clothing.

Private equity is not, in and of itself, a bad thing. It is kind of what makes capitalism go. The tendency of some PE groups to maximize profit at the expense of quality isn't great but wholesale blaming the mechanism that affords businesses the opportunity to flourish is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

The new Denver store is pretty cool, though: https://www.kuiu.com/pages/kuiu-denver-store
