Ammo prices

What I never thought I would see is a shortage of hunting ammo. I know deer hunters that cannot find .308 hunting ammo! Even 6.5 Hipster is getting dear. We didn't see this in 2013 as I recall. Out here (east, and no, I'm not a liberal) it hasn't peaked yet.

It's an election year. If the Civil War begins, the government don't want "Citizens" to have access to too much ammo. It's not necessarily "hunting" ammo. It's all ammo that compares to military and Law Enforcement ammo and handgun ammo. It has bled over to hunting ammo because the components are used across the board. And once it started for those components and military type ammo, it caused a overall panic and hording. It's no coincidence, believe it or not...

Good luck. I hope it changes soon, but socialism don't allow for armed citizens.

With the expected coming of socialism on Jan 21, I purchased another case of shotgun ammo. I didn’t realize had two others downstairs, but at the rate I go through the three cases should get me through the socialist apocalypse and past the 2024 election.
Three cases? That'll get ya a solid 4 chukar outings, nice work!

Maybe I love money too much, but if I was 1. sitting on a couple 10k worth of ammo that I'd stockpiled as ridiculously low prices, 2. I sure wouldn't be out buying more, 3. I'd be cashing in that retirement. But alas I know lots of #1s, and they're all #2-ing.

I spent the weekend around a guy that claimed to have +30k rounds of 9mm that he never shoots. If he were to sell it, drop that money in the market, say... BLNK, NIO, FCEL

I mean I guess to each their own, but having a crap load of something you don't use seems pointless.

I always figured the ammo hoarders would be the first ones taken out by the pros in a real world apocalypse.

It’s funny I was in sportsman’s warehouse two weeks ago and they had primers, H1000, H4350, and Varget. Shelf was full to the back. You guys just need to shop in a shotgun only state. Another 20 min down the road they have everything but Rutumbo. I was half tempted to buy the primers and list it on Gunbroker. Now that I said it, it’s probably all gone. Lol

I stopped in there today and it was in shambles. Empty shelves in lots of isles. I did pick up a lb of h4350 and the last two boxes of Barnes 127g LRX. Now if I only had primers to load them......

I am no hoarder by standard, I am a buyer. I see a deal, I buy some in case the next shortage comes around. And yes I will sell some in panic time if I feel I can spare some. I never buy in the panic times so I am not the cause of any shortage. IMO the ones who cause the panic shortage are the ones panic buying. Word of advice, next time the panic is gone, there is no shame in buying a little here and there even if you you already have some. One thing if for certain, ammo prices will never ever go down again. Same with reloading supplies. I need to look at some of the powders I have on hand that did not make the cut for my handloads and see if anyone in my area is interested in trading.

I’m in the same boat, I just hadn’t done a inventory in a while. This thread had me thinking about it and I finally did it this morning. I didn’t realize I had gone thru so many large rifle primers last year, I only have 148 left. Doing load development for 3 different rifles. Shooting them all out to 500 yards used up better part of half a brick. I gave 300 away to a guy for his rifle. Figured what I had left would last me for a while and didn’t reorder any.

Now I want to start tinkering again that my season is over and am rethinking it. Hopefully come summer this settles down a bit.

Seems like more of a citizen issue than a government issue. The same logic could be applied to the toilet paper and Clorox wipes shortage. Scared people cling to things that help them feel in control. Gun sales and ammo sales are through the roof this year. I wish it was just a government issue; we could vote them out! I miss the days of blowing hundreds of rounds at the range :(

I hear ya, I might hold off my yearly winter short and long range shooting weekend. I still am still shooting up some of the chinese and russian 7.62X39 that I paid 68.00 for 1000 rounds....... Go ahead, hate me

haha, that's ridiculous! I've never reloaded but I have about 10k once fired cases that I've been saving. I already wet tumbled them. Too bad Dillon has a 3 month build time for new presses right now. I'm new to this area (Boise, ID) but I can't even find 20ga and 12ga hunting ammo right now. I found some 2 dollar each bismuth for my 12ga and I was excited to find that 🤬

I'm kind of nervous too. I wonder if there will be enough of my reloading components to go around when I start having Great Grand kids in about 25 years.

Ever start getting powder and bullet's in again, I'm gonna hord. From now on when I can I'll get powder in 8# can's and keep all the bullet's on hand I can afford to get. I have about 30k primer's now so good to go there. Except for my 6.5x55 every cartridge I use is based on either the 30-06 or 308 case Case's pretty easy to come by and I've got about 500 of each.

Ammo shortages are good business. And election year fear-mongering has proven to be an unbeatable capitalist strategy, and apparently a very successful business model. I have a suspicion that there are quite a few who publicly feign outrage while laughing all the way to the bank. Midway, Sportsmans, F&S, Walmart, etc are all bare (those who adhere to MSRP), while gunbroker and others are filled to the brim with quite a bit of their (Midway, et al) original stock now at extornionate pricing.
Just one of many examples. (Note the ironic seller name.)

Last weekend about 20 miles south of me a couple places had lots of common rifle ammo on the shelves 7mm mag, 25/06, etc. Can't use that stuff here. One place had 14 boxes of Hornady 6.5mm 129 grain interlocks on the shelf

local stores are out of most things, or are limiting how much you can buy...7mm-08 is oddly plentiful.
