Alaska fishing trip HELP

I did a day trip out of Seward and had a great time. Every time I think I should do another one, I'm reminded I live 18 miles from a harbor with fishing charters and I should just go do one before I travel 2000 miles to do the same thing.

Alaska is amazing and everyone should experience it. We used to go to Yakutat where you can go on charters or do your own thing.
But, I've come to the same mindset as 2rocky even though the coast is 500 miles from me. I can go on several trips out of Westport,Wa or Newport,Or for a fraction of the cost of an Alaska trip and a big deal for me is not dealing with airlines. I come home with all the salmon, halibut, lingcod, rockfish and crab I can use.

Here's my report...
Thanks to all who gave help and encouragement.

My wife and I and our good friends had a fantastic time in Alaska. We chose a self guided trip with Waters edge lodge. They picked us up in Juneau and took us around 90 miles to the lodge. They gave us an orientation of the boat and fishing equipment and said " have fun, hopefully we see you again"
It was a little intimidating at first. The ocean is no joke with the tides and currents. It didn't take us long to figure things out and we started catching fish.
We caught way more than I ever dreamed of. It was so cool catching our first Halibut. None of us had ever caught one and it was pretty exciting, especially since it was 92lbs.
If your thinking about going to Alaska, I would encourage you to do it. I wish I had gone sooner and will definitely make a return trip.
