This week CPW Commission appointments will go before the Colorado State Senate for confirmation. Confirmation hearing before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources committee on April 22 and will likely go to a vote on the Senate floor on April 24. If you have been following the turmoil with the commission and recent vote to accept a fur ban petition against the recommendation of the agency, now is the time to make change. Push back against these appointments.

From the Colorado Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee today:

Frances Silva-Blayney- favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 7-0

John Emerick- DID NOT receive favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 2-5

Chris Sichko- DID NOT receive favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 3-4

Keep the pedal on the gas call and/or email those Senators. Expect a full Senate vote on all three commissioners on Friday, April 24.

Sportsmen’s Day at the Capitol tomorrow, good opportunity to engage with Senators on this issue.

More press coverage. Keep the pressure on.

My senator is Mullica, and I sent him an email tonight. I think I'd be more effective if I could meet him in person. Bummer I'm working tomorrow or I'd put on something not scrubs and show up at the capital tondo just that.

Show up in scrubs. Showing up, however you can, is what makes a difference.

Just following casually so don’t have have much detail. Sichko’s background seems reasonable. Any guesses on why the unfavorable vote?
I mean if you're going to represent the big game hunter shouldn't you be one? And only held a small game tag since 2021. While that in itself isn't terrible. If you've only held a tag since polis has been in office I'm not inclined to believe you are what you're claiming...wasn't a guide appointed last year that have never guided anyone?

Just curious. Seems odd that would be the reason for the vote from an Ag and Nat resource committee. My understanding was he was a hunter. I didn't realize that we are now grading each other as being a "true" hunter or not. You may be right, but I suspect there might be a little more to it.

Just keep your blinders on then ...that's what they hope for anyways...I didn't say anything that is not linked in the articles above.

I read the articles before asking the question. The vote was 4-3 against, so pretty close. Sounds like the outfitter industry may have been a factor. I was just looking for someone with better info. Thanks for adding to conversation.

Sichko was specifically the "big game and hunting" rep. A couple of the "No" votes on the committee were from people who didn't think he was qualified to represent that specific group, but was for an "at-large" seat, which is what Emerick is up for. So he was not recommended because of his lack of knowledge and experience about the interests of the group he was going to represent.

I listened to the whole hearing yesterday. Sichko is an angler and small game hunter, not a big game hunter. It was pointed out that there were 12 other applicants with actual big game hunting experience, but he was selected. The sportsman’s representative on the commission should have a DEEP understanding of hunting, including the complicated draw system, for example. Having “participated in the draw” since 2021 is a very weak statement. He was also trying to claw back from comments he made about how he supported “rewilding” which is a red flag to Ag.

He also did not have the support of a ton of sportsman’s organizations in Colorado, and there were questions about if he could overcome that as well.
