My son is getting married at the end of the month, so about a year ago he hit me up to make the gifts for his groomsmen and ushers. He wanted a cow call and bolt action pen made from matching wood.
I have plenty of different woods but wanted to find something I felt was off the charts. I searched for a couple months, not really knowing what I was looking for, only that I would know it when I saw it. I staggered across this Olivewood Burl. I have turned a lot of Olivewood, but never the burl.
When it finally came in I was plenty happy. It sands up silky smooth, smells good and likes my finish. Like all burls there were checks to deal with but nothing to bad.
These are the calls and pens I came up with.
The Cherry Wood boxes were made in NW Montana and a friend did the engraving. I made one for the father of the bride also, picked out the best piece for him. He deserves it, any of you with daughters will understand.
