So, went up to a ho-down with some other vets to hunt geese this weekend. We stayed at a ranch outside of Pierce where the generous land owner let us sack out in his heated shop. We got up ass early and headed out to the Wiggins area and a diary farm just off the South Platte. Sunday was a rough day. Not very cold, the field was soupy and a PITA to get in and out of with the decoys. We only ended up with 9 geese (6 of those we got with about 3 min left in shooting light). As we got back to the ranch Sunday night the weather was really turning. A bit colder and the snow started falling. Got out Monday morning to a different world. Cold, snowy and we didn't even get the spread set up before we got our first goose :) They were flying in flocks of 20 to about 50 and we had all of our limit except 2 by 1000 hrs. We didn't finish until 1100 simply because we had to wait for a couple of stragglers to present so we didn't get any "extra" birds. That last hour saw the biggest flocks of the day, several and all 50 +. Once we were able to cleanly limit out it was time to clean up and head to some chow. It was such a good day they we had flocks trying to land amongst us while we had the trucks out there and were picking up decoys. Good day :) Here are a couple of pics
