Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating.

My friend the Yetti shot one about like that last Spring. I made him look at it in the spotting scope (400 yards) before shooting. He thought it was "big enough". I said, "Are you sure?" Ka-BOOM.

Cute little fells where was momma?

She wasn't much of a mother and high-tailed it the other way. When I saw that she was about 100 yards and still going, I walked over 30 feet, snapped a couple of photos and got the heck out of there.

It's funny...I'm not a bear hunter, and for some reason I seldom see bears here in CO. I was even mentioning it to BuzzH when we were shed hunting this spring and had one at about 30 yards. I'm lucky to see one or two a year (other than problem bears in town). But these two were the 9th and 10th ones I've seen this year, and the first cub. Five of the 10 were at 30 yards or less when I first saw them.

That's about the size of the first and only bear I've shot. Was in Idaho at the time, had a buddy with me who was looking for turkeys. I picked a logging road to sit on that had a bunch of sign, sat down, and not fifteen minutes later a bear walked out about 120 yards away. I said, "man, that looks like a small bear", my buddy said, "dude, that bear is huge!". Neither of us had shot a bear before and I had one at 120 yards so I thought what the heck. BOOM! I think the thing only weighed about 100 pounds. I felt like a douche when I just picked it up and carried it up the embankment to the logging road.

Since then, I think I've learned a bit about sizing them up, but haven't went out to shoot one for myself.

Oak, man you sure got a lot of critters to occupy your time with and take great pictures of in Colorado!
The instant I saw your first photo, I also thought; Where's Momma? I also figured that you checked the situation out pretty well before making Junior pose for the camera. Keep the photos coming, Oak. DD

Yeah we don't see very many bears in Arizona but I have walked up on a few sows with cubs and the sow will just bolt and leave the cubs high and dry. I am positive bears can be mean but I have never seen it and don't ever want to!LOL!

I was charged once from a mamma that had a cub. She didn't get to close but let me know not to eventhink about it. I think sometimes the MOMMA leaves knowing the cub will go up a tree and then she'll come back. they never go far, believe me.

 Moosie, how does it feel to know you have actuay killed one smaller then that

haha.. just kidding.

GREAT photos Oak!

Nice picture, but don't make a habit out of it. Isn't that supposed to be dangerous? Like what if there was two mothers and two cubs and you watched the other pair run, but didn't see the little one?

Yes Terry, the naive one, you need to be more careful out in the woods. ;) Nice pic.

Browtine, how does it feel that You've never killed on Close to that. (Gesh, You no longer have someone you're debted to and you're out busting balls .... ;) )

Tom, good point, you always need to worry about 2 or 3 mothers hanging out. Sometimes they like to eat porridge together jsut waiting for someone !!!

No offense Tom, but you're beginning to sound like my wife...minus the biology degree. ;)

I'll be sure to not get eaten.
