I've been archery hunting Javelina for sometime now. thinking of going for the HAM hunt. I have a .54 Hawkin but think it's a bit much for Javelina. Anybody have experience shooting/finding a .45? I'm not interested in inline's. My .54 with iron sites and round ball I'm comfortable out to 80-100 yards on deer/elk. mostly because of the rainbow trajectory. How does the .45 compare?

Ya its just a little animal, the 45 will work just fine. I have used the hornday 250 grs on them with no issues.

Id use the .54, its not going to do that much more damage. Honestly, a front shoulder hit with a .45 or .54 is going to ruin almost all of it as small as they are

I'm going this spring with my .50 cal Kentucky rifle using patch and ball. The 177gr ball should be just the ticket.

I've killed several javelina shooting .45 caliber Hornady's with a sabot out of my .50 cal muzzleloader. Plenty of punch for those critters.
