Okay I have seen a few posts like this but I just need some input on these specific models.

I am ready to pull the trigger on buying a 45-70 lever gun. For 10 years I wanted the Henry All Weather in 45-70. I like the look of it and I liked it being cerakoted I actually went to buy one last month and then I stopped myself. I started buying suppressors a couple years ago and pretty much don't shoot without them. The All-Weather is not threaded..... I need a threaded gun for how I hunt now. I started using suppressors and I won't stop now.

With that said that narrows my options down. I could get the S&W 45-70 but I dont want that short of a barrel and to be honest I really want some classic features. I like the look of wood or laminate on lever actions. Since I dont want the smith I was thinking either the Marlin 1895 stainless with gray laminate or going with the Henry Model X and putting the Woox furniture on it. I live in Montana so I am not terribly concerned about the Henry X just being blued but I have had some issues with a couple of my rifles losing their blueing. So the cerakote on the All-weather had my attention along with the stainless of the Marlin.

My non-negotiables are 45-70, bigger "glove style" loop, minimum of 18" barrel and threaded barrel.

Let me know what you think.

I bought a Ruger made Marlin 1895 GBL in 45-70, & just recently put a Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10X40 CDS-ZL with the illuminated
Fire Dot Twilight Hunter reticle.
I was a little concerned the firedot would be too small, but with 6 brightness settings, it really stands out....

My LGS had it for 100 less than MRSP & mounted it for free with Leupold Medium Steel Rings that clears the buckhorn sight. The only thing it needs is a brake, lol....Hoping to get it sighted in at the range soon.....

That said, If i had to do it over, I think I would go with the Marlin Stainless 1895 SBL, the rail is longer which allows for lower & more forward mounting of optics. Still I think the GBL will do great for me. I am just thrilled to have one...... My buddy has a Henery Golden Boy in 30-30.....Beautiful wood & checkering.....but it is noticeably heavier than the Marlin.

@Hams42 I have had both of these guns, and I bought them in the order of the Henry X, and then the SBL. I killed a bear with the X, and I enjoyed shooting it, BUT even before buying it, the Marlin SBL was what I really wanted and I just didn't pull the trigger on the front end to buy the one I wanted most. I kind of learned based on this specific purchase that I just wait to get what I really want and don't settle for maybe the inexpensive one and just wait a little bit more time.
I absolutely love everything about the SBL. The wood is awesome and classic, and it shoots well. I did the same thing as RG300 and NOHARLEYET and put the Leupold scope on it.
Both are nice lever guns, but I would of course lean to the Marlin.

Yeah, solid non negotiables .45-70, threaded muzzle for your suppressors, 18" barrel, big "glove" lever loop, and classic wood laminate look. Montana weather means rust resistance stainless or Cerakote is smart.

Quick real user breakdown on your options

Henry All Weather Love the tough Cerakote and look, but no factory threading hurts. Aftermarket threading e.g. Grumpy's Guns or Silencer Central is doable $100–$200 shipping, with good results on Henrys many guys send theirs in and run cans fine. If you really want that model, it's viable, but adds hassle cost.

Marlin 1895 stainless models like SBL or Trapper These check almost every box factory threaded 5/8-24, 18–19" barrels or 16" Trapper if you stretch "min 18", gray black laminate stock, big loop available, stainless for Montana dampness, classic lever feel. The SBL 19" laminate gets rave reviews for reliability, smooth action, and suppressor balance it's a top pick for suppressed big bore hunting. Often praised as more traditional than Henry X while still modern.

Henry Model X .45-70 Factory threaded 5/8-24, 19.8" barrel, big loop, but blued not stainless and synthetic stock unless you swap to Woox furniture adds $300–$500 install. Bluing holds up decently in Montana if you oil it, but stainless edges it for low maintenance. Great suppressor host otherwise fast handling, accurate.

Short rec: Go Marlin 1895 SBL stainless laminate, threaded, big loop it nails your classic vibe, rust resistance, and no extra threading needed. It's a proven Montana hunter with suppressors many guys run them quiet on elk deer. If you love Henry's warranty look, thread the All Weather or grab the X and Woox it. Either way, you'll be stoked .45-70 levers are addictive suppressed!

What loads plans you thinking for it?
