I guess I never paid attention to the .338's. Haven't loaded a .338 in a long time. mtmuleyHe’s got quite a few heavy 338s. The tipped 267 shot well in my 338 RUM, but thinking a tipped 250 would be perfect.

Man, that 210 is so tempting for my 338-06, but it simultaneously makes me want to sell it and build a 338-300wsm. I hope the .488 G1 that .250 G7 converts to on the 210is correct. The .611 G1 its on the 225 Etip that I've been shooting makes for a really effective load.I saw those posted the other day - curious to see if they end up making a tipped 240-250 gr. I'd probably load them in my 338 RUM. The 267 shot great out of my rifle.
I don't have a 338-06, but it was on my list for a while. It'll thump game for sure!

I know this is a typo but if it were true then holy chit.611 G7
Roughly the BC of a Polaris missile.I know this is a typo but if it were true then holy chit
Yeah, was supposed to be G1. Still crazy high.I know this is a typo but if it were true then holy chit
If you are hunting elk I would stick with the 210’s but for mule or whitetail deer the 185’s may flatten your trajectory. Thanks Doug. I'm not opposed to the 185s but I just happened to get my hands on the 210s first.
Going to split the difference and try the Hammer HHTs in 190gr. this year.If you are hunting elk I would stick with the 210’s but for mule or whitetail deer the 185’s may flatten your trajectory.
Try them and report back because I’ve been itching for a 338 RPM just to use those. Your experience may be the deciding factorGoing to split the difference and try the Hammer HHTs in 190gr. this year.
If anything like the HHTs in other cartridges I've loaded, they'll be fast and stupid accurate. Hoping that Hodgdon will bring in a shipment of H4895 this spring. If not, I'll load them over a health shot of Varget.Try them and report back because I’ve been itching for a 338 RPM just to use those. Your experience may be the deciding factor![]()

Back when pretty much all I hunted with was a 338 Win Mag, a 200 grain accubond @ 3000 fps was the crème de la crème for everythang. If you can do anything close to that in a 338-06, in a rifle that doesn’t scream “latent homosexual”, and without pressure signs, you’re doing something awesome.Update after finally getting to test the 190gr. Hammer HHTs over H4895. Initial ladder test was disappointing in terms of both velocity and accuracy. Went back to drawing board and jumped 1 grain, 1 grain, 1 grain, 0.5 grain and 0.5 grain, ending with a fairly compressed load. Shot that ladder today and, suffice it to say, I’m fairly content.
338-06, 190gr. Hammer HHT, H4895, Norma brass, CCI BR-2, 3.345" COAL, 2.600" CBOL

Load 5 gave me some considerable pressure signs: flattened primer, some ejector marks and a moderate bolt lift. Load 4 gave some pressure signs but not like Load 5. That, coupled with a .763 5-shot group and a single digit SD, means Load 4 will be my elk load for this fall. I’ll be retiring this brass for target practice duty (now at 5 loadings) and start with fresh brass for hunting loads.
One interesting note: Hammer’s data calls for 3100fps in this combination. One literally could not fit enough H4895 in the case to hit that speed. I’m fine with 2950 as it is giving low-end .338 WinMag performance but beware of trying to match Hammer’s posted numbers.
**Please work up your own load with this cartridge. My data may not work for your rifle and vice versa. Use at your own risk***

It’s not a “chassis”, so as long as your hunting clothes don’t cost more than your rifle did you should be okay, unless you drive a Subaru of course!View attachment 373686
Does this qualify? Little on the light side but the Omega36M tamed the recoil right down.
