May not be the one I was after, but, he wil do just fine. I hadn't been seeing a ton of deer the last couple of times out, and our gun season was winding down and still hadn't taken any does for my landowners. I decided Friday was going to be the day for does if they showed up. I got in the woods around 1:30 pm, and with my pack still on the ground and me without my jacket on ( it was on my pack), in walks a yearling doe and decides 10ft from my treestand would make a nice place for a nap. . .fast forward to 2:45pm, she stands up and stretches and mills around, I pull up my gear and get my jacket on ( it was a bit chilly). She beds again at about 25yds. I'm thinking this is going to make for a long night in a tree, but, I like the live decoy idea too! I began to see lots of movement on the Oak flat to my left (150yds), lots of nice big does but a shot would be way too risky through all of the thicket. At 4:30pm I see a nice big doe and yearling working towards me at 75yds. . .at 30 yds I flip the safety off. . .they are both watching something behind me. . .I hear movement. . flip off the safety. . .directly under me stood a Booner. . .opposum!!!! The deer moved a little and now I have trees blocking a good shot. . .5 minutes go by and agin I hear something behind me, I turn and catch antlers moving from my right to left. . I keep watching him trying to gauge him but its too thick. . he steps onto a logging road and I'm still not 100% so he gets a pass. . .as he turns over the hill I get a good look and decide if he comes back by I'll take him. . .well as luck would have it, at 5:03pm he walks back down the logging road and boom hes down. Im back at it with my bow this week to tag a couple of does. . .then, it's a giant honey do list including new tile, carpet, and hardwood. . .woo hoo I'm excited.
