25 RPM released today.

They should've necked the 7PRC down to 257 but I get why they wanted to use a proprietary cartridge as their base rather than a Hornady one.

The 7 PRC is real close to 257 wby case size. They don’t want to say “it’s like our classic but in a better case designed by hornady and with a fast twist.”

I like it. Doubt I’ll ever build one but I don’t like wildly overbore and this should be enough to be impressive without gettin too crazy.

I’ve had both the 25-6.5 and the 25-7 built. The 25-7 is almost exactly what you said: a modernized 257Wby. The 25-6.5 is a modernized 25-06, maybe 25-06AI. Case capacity is so close that I used 25-06 load data as starting points for my own.

Agreed they should have left the case full length. Their vanguard action magazine is like 3.6” so not like they would have ran out of room. Only thing maybe so a 6.5 rpm didn’t get stuffed in one?
I think it’s probably that and so guys like me don’t ream out their 25-06 chamber with one and expect it to shoot (which I’ll be doing when my throat is gone since a 25-6.5 rpm reamer will chase out any firecracking).

My opinion is it won’t get much traction being that only wby will produce it in factory rifles along with 100 dollars a box factory ammo. A cool concept now that quarter bores are all the rage as of recent. My guess is that hornadys next release following the 25 creedmoor will be the 25 prc (that we’ve all been wildcatting for years now) that will supersede the 25 rpm in factory rifle chambering’s, factory ammo and overall components. Much like the 6.5prc does in comparison to the 6.5rpm

I think it was miles Neville at hornady that said he tried 25-6.5 PRC and that hornady thinks it’s too overbore and a little finicky.

If it grows serious legs on its own from wildcatters like the 22/6/25 creedmoors did hornady would probably oblige and saami it.

257 weatherby has a case length of 2.549”. 25rpm is 2.4”. Weatherby vanguard action allows like 3.6” OAL. I’m not seeing the advantage of the shorter OAL
Doesnt look like they are even chambering vanguards in this cartridge yet.

I personally have multiple friends shooting 25-6.5prc, 25-saum, and 25-6.5ss all they all have really good results with the 133 and 135 grain Bergers, can’t speak for what Hornady engineers think, but obviously in weatherby’s world “too overbore” doesn’t exist. Im running a 25 creedmoor with 133 EOL’s and am plenty satisfied with it as far as a hunting/match rifle. Still will always love my beloved 25-06 with 110 accubonds though..

Evidently weatherby isn’t real worried about success of the cartridge?
I don’t know what success means for weatherby. Obviously they don’t introduce stuff that will be as mainstream as creedmoors or 308 and ‘06 family cartridges. Maybe they are happy selling a few rifles to wby fans and $100/box ammo doesn’t need to sell much volume to make it worth their while.

It is in the 6 lug Mark V and the 307.
Both of which Weatherby makes.

The Vangard is made by Howa, with perhaps a Weatherby stock put on it.

Right but in my opinion if you are wanting to get your cartridge to catch on and popularity to grow you chamber it in your cheapest rifles to build the popularity from sales numbers.
