A-Square submitted their drawings for SAAMI approval for the 6.5-06 A-Square, in 1997.Yet for as long as it's been around as a popular wildcat no major manufacturer of firearms or ammunition has chosen to legitimize the 6.5-06.
Ballistically, the 25-6.5PRC wildcat is equivalent to a fast-twist 25-06 with the added advantage of modern chamber/case design and ability to fit in a short action. That’s the next build on my wishlist..Put a 1:7.5 twist barrel on a 257 Roberts AI or a 25-06, and it's an entirely different beast!
Agreed and I think they even offered some ammo and had cases so headstamped. No ammo offered from Remington, Federal or Winchester that I ever heard. No commercially made rifles either. Quality Cartridge offered/s brass headstamped 6.5mm-06, but I don't know if they still produce it.A-Square submitted their drawings for SAAMI approval for the 6.5-06 A-Square, in 1997.
I have a 25 x 284 that I had made in about 1992. It has a 12 twist barrel. Took it out a few weeks ago and it shot 117 grain Sierras about as well as it did Barnes 80gr TTSX. I recently picked up a few Lapua 6.5 x 284 cases and they chambered as is in my rifle. As far as @Potsie question.
The 25-30TC (25CM) is SAAMI speced with a faster twist rate than the old standard 25 caliber twist rate of 1:10. Meaning you can stabilize heavier bullets.
Otherwise it would top out on the 120gr bullets that the 1:10 does.
So people that don't (or aren't into) custom built rifles can get one over the counter.
Buy a prefit barrel with a 1:7.5 twist and screw it onto a Savage action in 250AI, and you would have a ballistic twin.

As for why 25 caliber over 6, or 6.5mm?
For some unknown reason the 25 caliber seems to kill above what it's caliber would suggest.
