2026 Winter Olympics

Leave it to the North Woods people to invent a sport that combines drinking and slowly moving during the winter.
Ice fishing is just men avoiding their houses so they can drink in peace.

Much like the biatholon. But with less movement.
My initial list of sports where “the north woods would dominate, drinking would be encouraged or even provide an edge, and involve light physical activity” from your first post was :

Cribbage (I would accept ‘Euchre’ from the North woods of WI or MI)
Ice Fishing
Pull Tabs
Meat Raffles
Liars Dice (really, any random dice game involving free drinks at the local)
“Broasting” some form of meat

But Big Fin’s ancestors took the cake for “North Woods sports revolving around barely moving” (until it was canceled for obvious flaws in the concept):

Curling is awesome.

Appointment viewing for me.

Both the gold and bronze medal mixed doubles matches today were really fun.

The rules are very easy to understand and if you can do basic math in your head to understand scoring it’s easy to follow along. There is a good amount of strategy involved in each shot and the touch and accuracy these folks have is unbelievable. They can curl a stone 4’ left around 2 other stones and drop it on a dime. Incredible skill.

Thats the Alisha Craig stone of Scotland. All Olympic stones are sourced from a single island. Apparently they curl better than other granite sources.

Isn't it similar to barroom shuffleboard, but they let the receiving side brush the ice to make the stone stop precisely where intended?
Love me some shuffle board.

My wife and I kinda knew each other, went out one night with a mutual friend and she whopped us as a team, while she was playing solo.🍺

Been together ever since. Shes an all star. Cancer survivor, great mom, best friend.

Shuffle board barometer can lead to good things.

20km men’s singles biathalon.

Shooting counts. Lots of potential leaders drop a few shots and are out of medal contention. Winners were 0, 1 and 1 for missed shots. Norway, France, Norway.

Interesting points. All the participants seemed to have snot chins at the finish. I would wipe my nose with my shirt sleeve but I suppose they can’t stop the skiing rhythm. Other odd point, number 3 slot Norwegian admitted in an interview that he cheated on his girlfriend. He told the whole drama story trying to win her back. Good luck with that strategy.

More biathlons to come!

Yeah, weird ass interview. If you have the confidence to compete in the Olympics, then realize you f'd up and move on. You're at the Olympics, it's a VERY target-rich environment. I'd rock a snot-cicle face to get in on that.

My second sport - sprint classic cross country skiing. 0.9 mile course.

Female final was 3 Swedes, 2 Nords and an American. Swedes must eat right. 3 tall Swedish blondes sweep the event. American Kern was a very distant 6th place.

Men’s sprint was interesting. Norway have some Superman who ran uphill in his skis at a 6 minute mile pace. IMG_4907.jpegIncredible.

Roboman won gold. Ogden from Vermont won the silver! He was great but not on steroids.IMG_4905.jpeg

Sub 6 min pace... Unreal

Also, if I could get a college redo I'd look at an exchange program in Sweden
