Man Vonn's injury was bad but, she did it to herself. At 41 with a ruptured ACL she should've bowed out and let a younger athlete have a chance of winning. I use to love too watch her during the World Cup but now I don't think theirs a mountain large enough to support her ego.

Has anyone seen the athletes in the Luge and Skeleton wearing GoPro's? the footage is insane.

Mixed feelings about Vonn. I always thought she liked her ego stroked.
Amazing skier, tough as nails. But she struggled out of the limelight.
The comeback had me rooting for her though. Old folks kicking ass. But at 41, with a ruptured acl, this wasn't going to end well. Yeah, I heard all the talk about it not affecting her abilities. But the downhill is unforgiving to any distraction no matter how " inconsequential ".
In the meantime, all the focus on Vonn has spared Shiffrin. The GOAT. She should perform better in this Olympics after all the expectations that weighed her down the last go around.
At least I hope so.

Isn't it similar to barroom shuffleboard, but they let the receiving side brush the ice to make the stone stop precisely where intended?

Vonn was still legit. She was leading the 2025-2026 World Cup competition. Her crash had nothing to do with her ACL. She tried to cut an edge and was 5” too aggressive.

In other news, Jake Paul’s girlfriend won a gold metal for the Netherlands setting an Olympic record in 1000 speed skating. Jake was crying in the crowd.

Wife and I have been watching the Olympics between house chores today (moved 2 cord of firewood in the morning).

Mixed biathlon has been my favorite event today. The men part of the mixture was ok but the women made the event exciting. There was a pack of 4 women at the head of the teams. Other teams were a minute or more behind. French woman drives past them hard and creates an 18 second gap. She hits her 10 shots with no misses. Last women take off fighting for silver or bronze unless France chokes. France didn’t. She expanded her gap a little and hit her 10 shots with no misses. Impressive. Other three countries come to the last standing shoot with everyone knowing that if they shoot well, they medal. Italy doesn’t miss - silver. Germany missed one and perfect shooting Norway missed 2. Germany gets bronze. The first French woman should be a force in the individual biathlon events.View attachment 401063

I watched the woman downhill knowing about Vonn. Twice I heard her scream loud enough to be above hill noises as they moved her. Horrific. I hope she recovers well. It may/should be a career ending event. Hurrah for Breezy for winning gold.View attachment 401064

Watching curling now waiting for live coverage. I still don’t understand the rules.

I watched the mixed biathlon. The women were incredible with their shooting. Under pressure an breathing hard.
I was impressed. that is so hard to do and they were really quick taking the next shot

Sort of I guess? I’ve never played shuffleboard. The stone will curl depending on which direction it rotates as it goes down the sheet. Sweeping makes it curl less and go farther, so you can kind of influence where it ends up. Some of these shots that they draw around to rest behind other stones are pretty incredible.

Sweeping is actually damn hard work.

Same. I watched for a while. I guess the drunk 100MPH rambo throw doesn't make its way into the Olympics. Way less entertaining then a couple of guys drinking and throwing

So, to put this into perspective. Say you have a LE elk tag in a top unit with 380 class bulls within reach and you injure yourself the week before the hunt. Going to just sit on the couch and stew in your misery, probably not. I would go to the best of my abilities to make it happen, exactly what she did.

Curling is surely an "acquired interest." If you grew up in areas where every town of much size had a curling rink/club, you ended up following the sport from lack of other things to do.

I'm talking curling meccas like Chisholm, Hibbing, Bemidji, and Cloquet. When the big events are put together, they all met at the real shrine of US Curling - Duluth.

I recently had the chance to try curling at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY. Shockingly fun and I have a whole new appreciation for what they do, now. Those folks in the Olympics are REALLY good!

That said, I still think it's a sport that would best be enjoyed with some beers and friends..

Curling is surely an "acquired interest." If you grew up in areas where every town of much size had a curling rink/club, you ended up following the sport from lack of other things to do.

I'm talking curling meccas like Chisholm, Hibbing, Bemidji, and Cloquet. When the big events are put together, they all met at the real shrine of US Curling - Duluth.

Leave it to the North Woods people to invent a sport that combines drinking and slowly moving during the winter.
