2026 bears

Although I always go start to finish every year and have since the late 80s, what my indicator is on when to go every day (I live in Bozeman), is when I have to mow my lawn.

Today is the earlier I’ve ever mowed my lawn since living in Bozeman since 1986.

I got a text a few minutes ago from the guy I usually hunt with..

I mowed my lawn here in Billings and two days later I had 5 inches of snow on it. I missed my windows to hunt the "close" bear hunt this spring. The unit always closes early but man felt super fast this year.

Yeah a week. Imagine hunting that in late May.

One could only dream! At the MWSF banquet this year 2 hunts for bears on the rez went for $13k each (i would never pay that). There are some brutes over there.

Almost sealed the deal last weekend. Griz chased him off though. Hopefully this weekend, unless you beat me to it.

Very nice boar! Let me know what kind of beer you like, id like to pick your brain on bears next time im in your neck if the woods. Though I avoid the area, so it my be a while.

Not new, but tastes change, ya never know. I like green as well, but it just usually doesnt come in a can.

Bear #9 dead on the highway this morning. Those are just the ones I've seen, they usually get picked up pretty quick around here. (Wisconsin highway 29 and interstate 94)

Too early for much bear action here, more bear on the move during the rut, at least the bigger boars as they tend to be on the move. Just my experience over many years.

Rifle. I hope he rugs it, has a really nice coat. Skinned hide is 6’ nose to tail and 7-5” wingspan.

Came close this morning. If only it wouldn't have been a sow and if the sow wouldn't have had a sub adult with her.

You know what the only close thing was the bear to me and even that wasn't very close. I saw two bears and that made my day.

She looked like a pretty big bear but I never was able to get the spotter on her when she was in the open.

Enjoyed reading this thread. I am flying to Montana tomorrow for my first spring bear hunt. Will be happy to just see a bear, but if I can shoot an adult bear of any size I will be happy!
