Writing long stories or live hunts isn't really my thing, but I've read and enjoyed plenty so I figured I could give it a shot. After 27 years of applying or buying points for bighorn sheep, I finally decided on the kind of hunt I wanted. I really liked the idea of a quintessential high country/back country hunt in grizz country, but I also wanted to hunt an area closer to home where I could share the hunt with friends and family, and make more but shorter trips afield. The area I decided on is one I've spent a lot of time in and has a special place in my heart. While it isn't one of the grizzly units I had thought about so much, it still has some wild and rugged landscapes, at least to me.

Needless to say, I was pretty excited this morning when I saw the draw results. My excitement doubled though when I found out my father drew a mountain goat tag for northern WY as well! 40+ years of applying. Man this is going to be a busy fall. Time to start planning. I had always imagined killing a sheep with my .270. After reading O'Connor, sheep and .270s just go together. But the idea of using my 9.3 is getting more intriguing. After all, how many sheep have been killed with one? I decided to see what Chatgpt had to say on the matter.

Not sure what to think of that answer, ha! Well plenty of time to make a decision.

Anyway, not sure how often I'll add to this thread, but hopefully it ends in some cool pics and a good story.

Following! It seems that ChatGPT already believes this Carl guy has done great things with a 9.3x62. You better use it and live up to the guy ChatGPT thinks you are! If anyone is going to do it, it might as well be you! Good luck!

Heck yes, use the 9.3. No one says you have to shoot your ram at 1000 yards. Make a HUNT out of it. I’d not hesitate to take my .375 H&H if I had the itch.

Congratulations, I’m only 25 years in and a dirty NR to boot.

If there was ever any doubt about the 9.3 before there can be none now.

My wife killed her ram with my .325 WSM. That was a great chambering and I regret selling the gun later on. Too bad it didn’t catch on.

Best of luck with your hunt!

First day of scouting today. Mainly just to get out and check out an area I haven't spent much time in. No sheep spotted, but no concern.

These pictures are from years ago, the only pictures I've taken of rams in the area. I really like the looks of the wide ram on the left in the first picture. I'd love to shoot one with that look. He was the biggest in that group, and the only one that looked like maybe a shooter. The second is a pic of a ram I saw along the highway one December. Looks like a good one to me, but definitely will have to see what other kind of rams there are in there.20190504_174418.jpg20171217_153809.jpg
