2025 WY Sheep Hunt

Pry rubbing his belly after eating sheep. Wondering how long he should make us wait for a update. Pry long enough for me to get into the pecos wilderness and out of service for a week

Day 2 of hunting. Took my daughter with me this time. Had a great day. Skipping stones in the river, shooting .22s, and finally spotting some rams! We went to a spot that morning that I checked out on the first scouting day. No sheep. Did glass up a little 2 point buck laying near some rocks. Kind of weird rack. Tall, narrow and forked weird.

In the late afternoon we headed up high to do some glassing and immediately spotted a herd of rams, just inside the wilderness boundary.

16 rams all together. About half of them were young, and half were mature (I'm guessing). A couple looked like potential shooters. It looked as if they were heading towards private, so we quickly made our way down to where they were, hoping we could catch them before they crossed the fence. When we got down to where they were at, I parked the truck and we snuck down the road another 100 yards. They were still there! I'll admit, I was having conflicting thoughts about shooting one of these rams. None of them stood out as a "no question" shooter. It was way early in the season and I still had over two and a half months left of the season. I had envisioned this hunt taking longer, being harder, and hunting the rams in the snow and rut. However, having my daughter with me was super special, they were in a very convenient location, and I would have been very happy with a couple of the rams in the group. The more I thought about it and talked with my daughter about it, the more excited I got about trying to shoot one.

I decided the circled ram was the one I wanted to shoot. The one on the left looked like it had longer horns, but not as heavy. The one on the far right in the pic looks pretty good too, but I don't remember it being bigger than the others. Anyhow, just needed this guy to stand up. We were able to sneak in pretty close. Some of the rams would look at us, then lose interest. At 135 yards, I felt like we were close enough. Let the waiting game begin. Didn't take long. The ram stood to pee. You ready girl? She had the video rolling. Boom!

Now that you have a second chance to choose, that one the far right looks way better than the one circled. I would have a very hard time not shooting him.

Arm chair quarterbacking is easy, I agree shoot what you like !!
I had no idea my ram was what he turned out to be when I shot, great surprise.

Looking forward to your success pics.
Waiting for the weekend so the daughter can tag along I bet.
Good luck.
