2025 Sask WT adventures

My 3 targets so far. Baits have been slow the last couple days. The first buck came though just once and haven’t seen him since maybe he buggered off. The big typical he is around alot more then last year. Last year he would come though about once a week or 10 days but in daylight usually. I usually get pictures of him almost every morning or evening now but no daylight action yet. But close within a hour if legal a few times. The heavy 4 in the last picture he hasn’t been around for a few days. I feel like I’m right in his area but he is very nocturnal. Most times I would get pictures of him on 3/4 baits all in one night. Finishing up everything at work cause I plan to hunt from the 15-25 of needed

Bottom one gets my vote. But any would definitely do.

Pretty good deer movement today. Right at first light saw a buck I would have liked to get a closer look at. He was in the fog so couldn’t tell what he had going on really but could see he had good mass. Unfortunately he was on the neighbours and ran west when all the other deer went NE to my side. Through the day saw several does and small bucks. The one heavy 4x4 I am after was in my one bait at 9am but I coukdnt hunt there due to the wind. Must be a doe coming in heat there as the deer action was insane on camera there this morning. Saw a big framed deer after legal on the way home not a place I can hunt but maybe he will swing back

Was like a light switch shut off compared to the last couple days. Before was small bucks running and chasing hard today the woods was dead. Seen 8 deer today and a cow moose

On the plus side the big 5x5 showed back up after being gone for a few days. Figured someone had got lucky on him

I have heard that when the moose find your bait, they don’t leave and the deer never come back. Any truth to that?
Sometimes. These ones have been living in there tonight. Usually they hit it once and never come back. They were in a couple Days ago and back now so they might be one of those moose that are patternable. There isn’t much bait left so hopefully they finish it off tonight and bugger off

So that cow calf leaves then this cow and two calves move in. I like moose but dang they are hard on the bait supply lol

I know you always get a moose (or usually get one) each year. Does Saskatchewan have a cow only season (like MT for elk) or are they pretty regulated?

I guarantee you that the moose would put a hurting on the bait.

Not anymore. A few years back they changed it. Before you could draw a cow only tag. Like everywhere govt seems to mismanage wildlife. My grype when they did that is they took the 80 cow tags that we had allocated for the bare and added them to the 60 either sex tags and now issued 140 either sex tags. The area can support but the trophy quality has taken a huge hit in the last few years since they did that. Cause about 139 of those tags probably get filled on bulls and one on a cow.

These moose are close enough they are most likely coming from our former OTC moose area. So it’s good to see just don’t want to go through a bail a night

We had a couple cold nights of -10- -15C so I never built any 220 boxes cause I was like coons will go to sleep for sure. Well they took one night off and we’re back with vengeance last night. They were on the bait for at least 2.5 hours. I’ll get an exact time when my camera sends pictures at noon today. But anyways the deer don’t like them and they have been skirting the bait and for the most part not coming in. Tonight’s project is build a couple 220 boxes and fix that problem
