I can’t believe leftover day has come and gone without a thread already posted on HuntTalk.

This year was an outlier for me, I drew some great tags and therefore did not participate in the quickest clicker competition. I might pick up a bear tag later on, but no rush there.

Anybody get anything good today? There were some fun tags available.

I was on at 7:45. I was surfing the net and ended up with a couple of tabs open. At 8:55 I started closing tabs, and accidentally closed the CPW tab. I got back on, but I was in the queue of death, so I didn't bother. I was after a muzzleloader antelope buck tag that takes 4 points.

My guess was people not wanting to draw attention to the 1 primo tag they were hoping to pickup. I didn't even look at the list but a buddy of mine said there were a couple of 4-5 point tags he had his eye on that only had 1 available. I've got more elk tags this year than I've ever had, so I'm good on getting more elk tags. Just don't have a pronghorn tag, so here's hoping Montana blesses me with a 700 tag with zero points!!!

its probably because there weren't really any good tags. Is this because they changed the reissue process? I think somewhere on here I read that anything over 5 res points was going to just be handed to the next person directly via a phone call from CPW?

It’s been that way. Anything that takes 5 or more resident points, goes to the next few people in line. If all deny, it’ll end up on the reissue

correct but there was always a limit in number of attempts and that is why some sheep/moose tags would show up from time to time or extremely good elk tags like unit 2.

Got deer and elk tags today.

Still just 5 attempts for the next in line. I think that most of the good reissue tags either end up in the secondary because they are surrendered immediately, or they end up on the reissue much closer to the season because people wait to turn them in. There were lots of buck tags on the list today.

In 2028 is when they will automatically go to the next person in line. Like mentioned above, still only 5 applicants are called to receive the tag.

Picked up my 3rd option Elk tag, and added Bear tag since it was available. Crazy how fast some of those tags go, after first few seconds! Congrats to everyone securing a tag.

Seems quite lame that we need to wait 3 whole seasons for all the good stuff you guys worked on to change the process!

I was trying for a leftover/returned deer or elk tag. No luck. We're planning an OTC elk hunt anyway, so I was going to see what else I could pick up before we head up.

No luck today, I was logged in at at 8 am and the website put me in the queue by 8:15. Got in at 9:03 and everything I looked for was gone.

Here is a question I had today. Say I apply for a unit for 5 points and don't draw but I draw a second choice with no points. I still hold an A tag but plan on returning it. Say a couple of guys turn back those 5 point unit tags and I am next on the list from the draw and CPW calls me to accept it. Will they give me the option since I already hold an A tag or will they skip over me and move on to the next guy in the draw?

I grabbed a unit 15 archery elk tag. I have been there in the past but not since the big burn. I know it’s busy but it beats sitting the season out. I tried for 3 other units first but no dice. I have 3 weeks to hunt. If anyone has a lead for a packer in the area I would be interested, thanks.

been that way for many years…But when all 5 pass it lands on the list. That is more common closer to the various seasons cusps scouting time is so short folks pass.

Pass you up as they should of course. You drew what you put in for regardless of choice.

I tried and failed to get an elk tag, hopefully will get another chance. I've got a couple of decent reissued tags before, much closer to the hunt dates.
