2022-2023 Waterfowl Pics Thread

20230105_125827.jpgOH how I know how he feels. Though not rare like that shoveler, I've now missed a drake pintail (last year) and a drake canvasback (today). In successive years. Understand, I've seen 6 pintails in 14 years of duck hunting, and roughly 15 canvasbacks. These three are my Consolation prize for my efforts

Southern IL duck tour! Like almost Kentucky southern IL. Hunting the same public land spot tomorrow and then a different one on Sunday. Hopefully more birds to come but I won’t hold my breath. I shoulda had a nice fat mallard drake as well today but I whiffed on the shot. Gorgeous day but not great duck weather. Too sunny and no wind. But there are some birds around. Some other blinds had better action. Hopefully I’ll be in one of those tomorrow.

If you are only gonna kill a single duck all day, it sure helps if it’s banded. Much slower day overall with seemingly a lot less birds in the air and only this one interested in my blind. I about fell over when I picked him up and saw the band. Banded about 14 miles as the crow flies from where he was killed.186E4E45-65F9-4A46-B6EE-B872D96FCCD9.jpeg67A9206C-3C61-4CDE-A1B3-22414041493F.jpeg

Nice first one? Just saw the date that's good age bird.

All you people with bands this year suck. My season is all over with, over 150 fowl dropped, second year without a band. I just suck
