It has been a great 9 day deer season. Our 7 person group took 16 deer. For me it has it has been a crazy season, out of the 16 taken I killed 12 of them. I shot 5 Bucks and 7 doe's. I shot my first Record Book Buck this year, a 160 class. Ok time for the story and pics.
Opening day I shot this 9 pointer he had 2 doe's with him, but they left the scene

The second day I got this 8 pointer all by himself

and the 2 doe's on the far right were running together when they fell

Later that after noon I got my BIG BUCK,,, The whole hunting story of the Big Buck is this, there is 7 guys in my hunting parter, and we were hunting some new land. I was out scouting a week before the season, and found good spots for everone. So I walk everyone to there places to sit ( so they would not get lost) for an evening hunt. At the end of the hunting day I was walking back to pick up each hunter, and to talk about anything, or what they may have seen. When I got to the last guy we all stood around in the in a picked bean field and talk, and told jokes, when one of the guys said Donald, turn around and look at the size of that Buck. I turned, and sure enough there he stood, high lighted by the sun going down, it was kinda like pictures you see in magazines, pretty cool. As I slowley took my Remington 870 off my shoulder, and looked at him through the scope, and place the cross hairs on his chest, he walked towards us some more, and turned alittler given me his shoulder view. As I squeeze the trigger, the Brenneke Rottweil found its mark. And ran about 200 yards. He was already dead, but he did not know it yet. The range finder came out and it measure ( 3 times) 121 yards, 120 yards, 120 yards. Live weight he was 240 and, dress out at 210.

It was a great year

WOW! That's quite a pile of deer there. I agree with schmalts, that big old whitey looks like it has muley antlers. Pretty nice I must say. Congrats!

allot of guys have said the same thing about the antlers and it is strange on the formation of his. There is still allot of deer running around here in Minnesota, the Timber wolves have not got to many, as for the Brush wolves (coyotes) they are getting thinned out from my coyote crew

Nice group of deer.

wish we had that quantity of deer... It's funny ya know... I've talked with some AZ hunters that didn't even SEE that many deer in their hunt season in AZ this year... granted they saw more of their windshield than the woods but still funny.

Thats a dandy buck...

Can you clarify for me...are all the camps tags just "camp tags" and anyone can fill them, or were you allowed that many tags yourself.... That is a good way to get some killing in...thats all I know!

In Minnesota, if we are hunting as a group, one person can take all the deer if the opportunity presents it's self. If I am hunting with 100 people in my group I can shoot 100 bucks and in some ares 400 or more does! as long as they have tags to fill. If I am hunting by myself, I get one deer permit that I can use to tag a Buck or a Doe. Then I can also get 4 intensive harvest permits, which can only be use for taging doe's

So you just write down a 100 people from the rest home on a list, have them buy tags and go a killin. That's a dumb damn law, if that was here we wouldn't have any elk or deer to hunt next year. I guess that if it can stand the pressure then who am I. That almost as dumb as no hunting on sundays.

Nice Buck though. Atta Boy!

mr. shoot-straight Hmmmm first of all, it is not a dumb law, but that is your opinion, and we all know where opinions come from. As for people taging the deer, they have to be out hunting and in the woods, with me. We have an abundance of deer in our area, the D.N.R. give out extra tags to bring the deer population down, so next years deer will thrive. As for the people from the rest home, if they were able to do what they love,.... HUNT....., and to go out, and do things in society, they are more than welcome to come along.............

yoteler,

just playing devils advocate, but what if some of the other "camp tags" got filled by those that actually had them in their possession and you were unaware and then smacked those deer as well and were now over the limit? See the problem with this type of system that allows party hunting to be legal?

The tags do not get filled unless we are all hunting together. If the guys go out on there own, or to another spot, and fill there tag that is fine. But before each day of the hunt we all check with each other, and see what we have left for tags, that way no extra deer are shot, becuase that is one of my rules, for my hunting party, and they all agree with me. If guys are sitting in there stands in the morning, and a couple of guys shoot and bring down some deer, we have times that we all check in with each other, to makes sure everone is still alive. This is when we know that some tags have been filled, and what tags are left to fill. Each hunter has to keep there tags in there own possession. Good trust, and communication, between my hunting party is a must in my eyes. Very Good Question though

Minnesota`s game laws sound ALMOST as pucked up as Texas

...creepy and redundant. Minnesota's not nearly as screwed up as Texas.

28 cal., your state specific fixation wouldn't have anything to do with an eeee-ticket 'Deliverance' float trip on one of our central Texas rivers, would it?

Sorry yoteler.

The rules and laws work fine for myself as well as the folks that hunt with me
If people do not like the regulations, there is a real easy fix...... Hunt somewhere else.

Nice bucks yoteler. Curious are there some guys in the group that don't want someone else to shoot their deer? How do you decide on who gets what? If someone swats a fawn and has already filled their own tags, who is the lucky one that gets to dispose of their tag? You put down two bucks that you said will go on the wall. Is there ever any problem with someone else having to tag one of those deer with you taking the head?

Obviously party hunting is a tradition for MN and there are really no problems with your group. I, as someone that hasn't party hunted, don't understand how it works so well for these large groups. I do remember when I was pretty young and hunting with a group of 5 or 6 adults that I really didn't know well, one guy killed a spike on a drive and asked me if I wanted to put my tag on it. As I said, I was pretty young, but was't afraid to tell his to get fugged in so many words.

I don't understand party hunting, but glad that it works for you and your crew. congrats again....

Our hunting group are not out for antlers. We are out to fill the freezer, and to enjoy the hunt. My group respects each other, and to tag other deer if it needs to be done. If someone shoots a doe opening day and tags it themselves, then on the 2nd day shoots a monster, and is unable to tag it, one of the other group members will tag it for them. The rack will go back to the person that shot the deer. Just for a example if one of my hunting guys shot a new world record buck and I was the only one left to with a tag, Yes I would tag it, but the record would go under there name, rite along with the headmount, and all the newspapers writing the stories, because it is their trophy, not mine I did not shoot it. It is no diffrent if some one were to shoot a Piebald Deer, or a Doe that has 3 ears, it is the shooters trophy either way, I would just be glad I was there to be apart of it, and there to congrat... the one that got it. My hunting group works as a team, and like I said before, our hunting group are not out for antlers. We are out to fill the freezer, and to enjoy the hunt.
