1st time Elk hunting....Help

Had a great hunt, but came home without an Elk. It was very warm last Sunday-Tuesday and the Elk seemed to stay up in the very high elevations. I had a great time and did see 1 Bull, but just could not get a good shot at about 350yds. I could have taken a marginal shot, but just could not stand the thought of the bull possibly running off only to die a cruel death. I am an eithical hunter and this would not be what I was taught. I never saw another Elk, but had a great time with friends and learned alot. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and God Bless.

I don't if I'm in an area I usually hunt. But if you're going somewhere new and plan on doing some hiking, I can't imagine going without one. 99.9% of people already have one, so why wouldn't you take it?
