160 gr Accubond for 7mm-08

Which is still a really bulky powder for the case capacity.
You can hear the powder crunching with a 150gr Ballistic Tip.

284 Win, or 280 Rem case volume, go for it!

Looks great to me. The 7/08 with 160s is no different than the 6.5s with 140s.
My old 7/08 ran a 162 eldm over a stiff charge of varget to 2750. Had a new one built for the 180 eldm and am getting 2650 over h4350. Or about the same velocity most are getting out of a 147 eldm in a creedmore, with better bc.

What size barrel length are you running to get those velocities?

Here is the numbers I have used Quickload shows 111.5% compression and my powder charge at 58,492 PSI for 2762 FPS.
Quickload predicted 2818 FPS so I think I,m lower than 58,000 PSI with that load. I do dribble the powder in the case and the neck
is half full, but it compresses easily. Oh and it is accurate with the 160gr Nosler Partitions.

Shot a large mature whitetail at 300 yds using a 18" rem 788 7-08 162gr Amax. Looked like it had been shot with a 300 winnie. Most accurate bullet for my rifle. Probably only going 2500ish. I have recently been shooting 175 sierras out of it quite accurately. I would guess they are not moving fast enough though. I was suing H414 and Large Rifle primers

I know this thread is old but I thought I’d share my results. I worked these loads up to use in 2020 for my OTC elk hunt.

Remington 700, 24” bbl, Hornady virgin brass, Remington 9 1/2 primer, Nosler 160gr Accubond(.531 BC), and 2.830” O.A.L.

H4350= 2,675 fps
Winchester StaBALL 6.5= 2,815 fps

I ended up going with the H4350 load due to its temp insensitivity, but that StaBALL load had some horsepower.

Yeah, been hearing some really good velocities with Staball.
Also hearing really dirty.
But i haven't tried it yet.
Too many other projects.

That is a real hot load, Last weekend my hotest RL26 load with 160gr Partition, win case and 215M primer was 2760FPS.

That's a hefty bullet for a 7-08. What sort of velocity are you getting?
I suspect he's getting enough. velocity is over played. I wonder what the min velocity would be with that bullet? Also I suspect it's beyond min and that accurate should be deadly.

Compare to a 458 win w/500gr bullet. Seems to best it will do according to my Hornady manual is only 2200 FPS! The secret to the 458 is not velocity but bullet weight!

Years ago I had a 7x57 Ruger. Only thing I found that shot well in it was 154gr Hornady RN! I don't recall how I loaded that 154r RN any more and we didn't have chronographs back then. Tell ya what I do know is that every thing I shot at with it die! I think velocity does have it's place but when you get into heavier bullet's, they also have their place. Don't under estimate a heavy bullet at lower velocity.

My brother had a model 70 in 7/57 he only shot 139 gr hornady bullets in it because we were only hunting deer. I loaded the

Handloads for him, I used IMR 4320 for the loads. He thought he was getting 2900 FPS. Not sure if that was right. I,m going to get some 154gr Hornady SST flat based. I have some 154gr Interbond but they are real long. May try some RL17 Or PP4000mr.

Minimum velocity for proper expansion with the Accubond is 1,800 fps, if i recall correctly.
The ABLR is a different beast & min velocity for it is 1,300fps.

I've been using PP4000MR in my 280 Rem & 284 Win with the 150gr ABLR.
Accuracy is good. Still need to run past the chrono.
I really gotta blow the cobwebs off that thing!

RL26 takes up less space than RL23, About the same as RL16.
The RL26 loads are compressed, but seem to work. Like I said I only use flat based bullets. Actually I have had loads even more compressed, like MRP with 160gr bullets. I tryed RL23 but you are right about that one it needs a bigger case. I got 2868 FPS using RL26 with 150gr Speer BT S.D. was 15.2 for 5 shots. I,m working on loads using PP4000mr with 145gr Speer right now, also Superformance.

I've heard MRP & RL22 are the same powder.
I haven't tried Superperformance. I'm thinking it may do well.
PP4000 is an interesting powder. If you look at burn rate charts, nobody seems to agree with where on the chart to put it.

I have both MRP and RL22. I have shot the same loads on the same day. If loads are equal RL22 will get you a littlemore speed. the MRP will also drive a heavier bullet faster.

But if you start increasing the loads the RL22 will get to high a pressure. The MRP will take about 1 to 1.5 more grains of powder, It will also give you a little more speed. Open the cans up pour some of each out. They do not look the same. MRP is much darker in color. Maybe all they due is use a different coating, but in my opinion they are different.

Yeah, i keep hearing they are the same, but looking up loads for my new 257 Roberts AI, i'm coming up with different weight between the two.

RL23, RL22, MRP and RL26 All worked good in my 257 Roberts with 115gr Nosler Partitions. MRP and RL23 were most accurate. RL26 gave highest velocity, but slightly less accurate. I got over 3100 FPS with all of them except RL26 It gave close to 3200FPS.

First if I was going to shoot 160gr Accubonds I would use RL17, PP4000mr or RL26. Personnely I only shoot 160gr Nosler Partitions in my 7mm-08.

Because they are shorter and take up less space in the case. I only use Winchester cases, they hold more powder. I use Federal 215M or Win WLRM primers.

I have not shot the RL17 or PP4000mr with 160gr bullets I did shoot 154gr interbonds with thr RL17 and got 2802 FPS. With PP400mr the heaviest bullet

I have used is the 145gr Speer at 2895 FPS. The powder Hunter and Superformance may also work. Wished I had some 154gr hornady Flat based bullets.

Shot some 160gr Nosler Partitions today, I got 2770FPS SD 9.4. Also shot some PP4000mr using 145gr Speer BT bullets. First load was 2900 FPS and .5 gr more was 2917 FPS

I was using 215M primers and Starline cases. PP2000Mr with TTSX 120gr did 3145 FPS With WLRM primers Win cases.2.740 OAL. Today most accurate load was RL16 using 139gr Hornady BT CCI250 Primers. Speed was 2875 FPS SD was 8.4 3 out of 4 bullets touching.
