  • Mike, I was looking at the thread someone had started back in 2020 about unit 74. I hunted unit 65 that season. I was planning on doing a diy archery this year and was kicking around unit 74 after looking at 2020's stats. Was wondering how crowded it normally is during early archery and also if the area had recovered from the 2018 fire? Thanks in advance.

Burn area is coming back nicely, still tough for archery as it is pretty open we are doing better drought wise now, but still pretty dry. The season is super dependent on weather and this year the elk were not talking much until we were late in the season. I can't remember if 74 is OTC for archery.

It's not an OTC but on GoHunt it's showing 100% draw odds with 0pts.
Hey Mike, you seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful on Colorado's unit 74. I'm doing a dyi early season muzzleloader hunt with my dad as a retirement gift for him after 43 years with UPS. Not looking for secret spots we are capable mountain hunters but was hoping for some general areas in the wilderness that might be a good starting point.

Be glad to make suggestions. it is VERY weather dependent so we need to stay in touch close to the season. The drought is having a big impact on game movement, not the least is concern about fires this summer.

Awesome thank you. Yeah, this lack of snow this year has me worried for all the states I'm looking for tags in. Colorado was the hunt and state i really wanted to focus on because it's with and for my old man. I really appreciate your willingness
