In Southern NY the whitetail & black bear season are concurrent. The only legal weapon for deer is a slug loaded shotgun. I will be hunting with Federal sabot rounds and would like to bag a bear if the opportunity presents itself.

Has anyone out there harvested a black bear with a 12 ga slug?

Any thoughts/info on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I never shot a bear with a shotgun slug but it should work great. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one with a slug, even though there are probably guys who will tell you that nothing less than a .300 Magnum is suitable for a 150 lb. black bear.

Where in southern NY are you going to be hunting?
