A 12 X 16 minimum. Mine is 12 X 17.5. I also use a 10 X 12 attached to the front of the larger tent, for a kitchen. Perfect for 3 to 4 people for as long as you want. A good wood stove in the sleeping tent A 12 X 17.5 will give you room for 3 cots, I use roll a cots, a table, again a roll a...
42 elk, years hunting elk 46, average distance, 30 yds, Win. .270 featherweight, 150 gr hornady spirepoint, 51.5 gr 4350. I bow hunt with a rifle in the great central Idaho rainforest.
I know the perfect hunt and location for you and your dads in a great area for elk that will fill all your needs. Private message me if you'd like to hear more.
Take a kid to camp with you and make it their job to catch the mice. kids belong in elk camp even before they are old enough to carry a rifle and hunt.
Lots of wolves and heavy outfitter use in a small area. Winter kill was heavy in the late 90s and like all of units 10 and 12, to much hunting pressure from everything for a good rebound.
WW II GI pack board, prefer my elk quartered and packed out, I never bone out. I use bed sheets from the goodwill. Wrap your quarters up tight and they will stay clean and flies cannot blow through the material. Tie them on 1 at a time, nice and tight, and you can haul an elk out of anywhere.

I have the 1.5 hp Cabela's grinder. I grind around 500 plus lbs a year, and it is everything I could want. Unless you do a large amount of meat ( couple elk and deer a yr. ), you don't need this much power though.

Idaho has the best deal by far for kids. Less than $100.00 for a non resident youth, 12 thru 17, for a hunting license, deer tag, and elk tag, with some cash left over!
Morning, I live in north central Idaho, lots of deer and elk here. I could be interested in pheasant and deer hunting. Also live on the Northfork of the Clearwater River, and have some excellent steelhead fishing in the front yard.
Is it worth my time to sit on and glass clearcuts? How much time should I spend in the timber vs. sitting on cuts/saddles/finger ridges?
I spend very little time on clearcuts, instead work small clearings/brush in the timber. 90% of my time is in the timber, which can include cuts/saddles/finger...
I have been hunting the same country for over 30 years. First and most important, you need to slow down, way down. I rarely cover more than a mile in a days hunting. The deer are there, just not responding to rattles and grunts and bleats. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but if you are...
