FS: Vortex Diamondback 3-12 scope (new in box)

$300 ($99 off of list price). Still in unopened box. I just don’t have a gun to put it on.

    Deer cart

Anyone have recommendations for a game cart for deer? It would be used for transporting deer across alfalfa or stubble and I don't want to leave ruts if possible. I'm guessing they won't work very well in sagebrush, but maybe something out there has tall tires.

    Ibonds: 7.1% return

I bonds are now returning 7.1% risk free. Don't get too excited; these follow inflation and will likely drop towards 3% after 6 months when the new rate is determined. Still, even if they drop to 2-3% they are returning far more than any other risk free investment right now and they also protect...

What are good storage bins for freezer

I put my meat in cardboard boxes. My shanks go in one box, steaks in other, etc. I'm looking for something better that will allow the air to circulate and freeze the meat quicker. Maybe milk crates? Are there good stackable wire baskets?

Any bad changes in MT hunting regulations?

How about we list the bad changes to the regulations without a lot of discussion so it doesn't turn into something too big to read. Maybe hit like or angry if you agree that it is bad and love if you think it is good. The one that jumps out at me is combining 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 327 and...

Are there any good changes to MT regulations?

Everything I see seems to be a big negative, or at best a wash. Was anything done that could be considered a good idea? https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/public-comment-opportunities/hunting-reg-changes PS, good for Julie for keeping limited entry mule deer [edit, in the new 312] on USFS lands.

    East Crazy Mountain Land Exchange

This is something I've been involved in since I was cited for trespassing while using a Forest Service trail in 2017. The proposal has been submitted to the Forest Service. After they look at it and check the feasibility and modify if necessary then it will go out for public comment. It's not...

    MT SB 60 Trapper Education

Senator Flowers introduced a Trapper Education bill, SB 60. MT trappers (with exceptions) will need to take this course before they can trap. It appears to be a good bill with wide support amongst the trapping community and legislature What I don't understand is that this has been tried in the...

Montana Republican-led Efforts to Restrict State Land Deals Prompt Conservation Concerns

With Gianforte leading the pack of wingnuts this is going to be a rough year. https://flatheadbeacon.com/2020/12/08/proposed-land-legislation-prompts-conservation-concerns/

    What's a good crossbow?

OK, I vehemently oppose crossbows during archery season, but I hunt a weapons restricted area where they might work well. I've shot several deer with shotguns on this place but the more I hunt it the more worried I am about a ricochet. There was an article published a while back suggesting...

Get your deer/elk tested for CWD!

I got a call today from the local FWP biologist saying the deer I shot last weekend tested "suspect" for CWD. I shot it on the outskirts of Bozeman in the weapons restricted area. MFWP needs to do another test to confirm the result, but I guess it is rare that the preliminary test is wrong...

How much did you lie about your weight on hunting license?

Maybe you thought your entry would be the value by hunting season, or you entered what you weighed that one time when you sweated you butt off after an hour on the treadmill without drinking water, but time to fess up about this. I'm probably short by 2-3 pounds.

Pack out distance for goat harvest (Montana)

Hello - I am gathering info on the typical distances required to pack out a mountain goat for a project I'm working on. I am interested in Montana hunts only, and especially those in the Crazy Mountains. If you got a goat or know someone who got a goat, how long was the pack out? It would be...

SW Crazy Mountain Land Swap: Not Good for Big Game and Fish

Hi folks, A land swap was just made public in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle and Billings Gazette. I was tipped off to some concerning aspects of it a while back, but I wanted to digest the actual proposal before commenting here or in the press. Ive taken a look at it and it is still a bad deal...

    Jupiter and Saturn

If you don't know, now is a real good time to check out Jupiter and Saturn with your spotting scope. Jupiter is the bright "star" in the south after sunset. If you look at it through a good 50x scope you can see the four Galilean moons in obvious orbit, and even the cloud bands. Even with 10x...
